ANIMAL COLLECTIVE SET TO DROP WATER CURSES EP ON CD/12" MAY 6

Animal Collective
Rather than listening out for the first cuckoo you can herald the arrival of spring with the new Animal Collective EP, Water Curses.

Containing four brand new tracks, Water Curses is the first Animal Collective release since last year's tour de force Strawberry Jam.

"Water Curses" sees the band's capacity for re-imaging their constituent parts into ever more interesting and saturated shapes go up by a giddy notch. All four tracks have a more stripped down feel than their recent work, opener Water Curses takes an unexpected rhythm and throws it up, down and sideways to produce the sound of a smile. A technique that Animal Collective are now in a position to call their own.

"Street Flash" is nearly seven minutes of spaced out hollers, electronics and lullabies that luxuriate in a chord sequence running through a delay that sounds like it's made of honey. Threatening to explode but laying back on itself instead the track is like a particularly lucid dream.

"Cobwebs" is equally languid. Weaving itself around a vocal that sounds like it's imagining some new kind of space church for Al Green to conduct weddings until it slowly fades away into a sticky ether. The EP's final track takes the celestial feel into even more blissed-out states. "Seal Eyeing" is the moment you realize watching vapor trails melt into the sky is not only the most constructive thing you can do, but the only real option that's left.

Water Curses Track List:

1. Water Curses
2. Street Flash
3. Cobwebs
4. Seal Eyeing

This band is INSANE. I just got Strawberry Jam, and it's great. They play music like I've never heard before.

This band is crazy, i would like to see them live. They are from the town i live in , but they don't really have a big local following. I learned of them about two years ago, and I havn't heard anything that I loved, but they are original and I can dig anything that is original.

If you guys like Animal Collective this much, check out Panda Bear's release "Person Pitch." It's Noah Lennox of Animal Collective. I've never heard anything like it. It's what you'd get if The Beach Boys were zapped to the year 2032. It's so amazing; definitely check it out!

i get it -- they have the word jam in their album title so they must be a jamband right? just because they go a-squeakin' and a-squakin' on their casio "my first keyboards" doesn't mean theyre worth a damn. call me when they play a decent guitar solo.

please, bill nershi, i beg you, come and deliver us from this nightmarish, sci-less bizarro world!

Hey SCIRGR84EVS, when has nershi ever torn up a guitar solo? Belive me, there is plenty guitar solos out there, this band isn't a jam band , but they are doing thier thing and they have thier own sound, so why are you bashing them? Now go back in your hole and cry because SCI isn't around. I miss them too, but theres a lot of great bands out there. Don't waste your time wishing old bands were back together. (in no way am i bashing sci, just this dude)

LORD FARQUA:the muffinman? THE GINGERBREAD MAN:(high pitched voice) the muffinman!!! I totally agree muffinman, just because your accustomed to one style of music is no reason bash on another. I have only heard a limited amount of AC recordings and limited beta on them from friends but to bash because they lack nershi-esque guitar solos(is that an oxymoron?) is just plain silly....SCIGR84EVS go watch a funny movie such as Shrek and cheer up sourpants
