New York City’s storied Central Park has opened its gates to some of the most historical concerts in the history of rock music. When it isn’t breaking attendance records in the Sheep’s Meadow, the ever-popular Summer Stage has proven just as exciting. This summer’s lineup promises to be even more rocking. String Cheese Incident, moe., and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones with Keb’ Mo’ will give the Big Apple a dose of cool in the thralls of the summer heat.

As the Incident enacts its plan to pare down its touring schedule to 90 shows per year and closes one door behind them, another one flies off the hinges and affords the band some room to play bigger venues. What’s bigger than an outside gig on July 20th smack dab in the middle of Manhattan? This will be the show to watch, as it could take SCI over the last hurdle and give them a prime locale near the top of the proverbial totem pole.

One band that may be that much closer to that coveted slot will be returning from another short stint in Japan. And being that moe. Will also headline the festival circuit for the majority of its summer tour, the NYC gig is just what the moe.rons ordered as they will take the park all for itself on July 12th.

Finally, two Grammy winners will grace the stage at Rumsey Playfield and try their hand at al fresco traditional music on August10th. Bluegrass powerhouse Bela Fleck and the Flecktones will invite special guest Keb Mo’ to share his rollicking blues numbers.

People will find their own ways to beat the choking swelter this summer with the abundance of festivals. But if you’re like me and stuck around the home-base all summer, there’s no better cure than getting some grass between your toes and grooving to the sounds of your favorite bands. So remember, even though you should always go see live music, summer was made for it.
