Previously confirmed artists for this year's event include Phil Lesh & Friends, The Flaming Lips, Michael Franti & Spearhead, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Mickey Hart Band (featuring Steve Kimock & George Porter Jr.), Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, Slightly Stoopid, Dark Star Orchestra, Panjea with Michael Kang, JJ Grey & MOFRO, The New Mastersounds, Everyone Orchestra, The Wood Brothers, Cornmeal, WBPN and The Hue.

In addition to some of the most popular touring artists, 10KLF and its partner OurStage.com will kick off the 4th annual Cosmic Break Tour on April 3 at Cabooze in Minneapolis. OurStage is the only 100% democratic competition where the fans decide who’s best in emerging music and film. Artists upload music and compete in monthly competitions. Fans visit OurStage.com and judge the music. Fan-favorite artists move on to the next round.

Hosting regional showcases throughout ten Midwestern cities, the Cosmic Break Tour offers independent and emerging artists the chance for a paid performance slot at this summer's event as decided by fans voting. Other showcases take place throughout April and early May in Sioux Falls, St. Louis, Fargo, Omaha, Iowa City, Milwaukee, Chicago, Duluth and then again in Minneapolis.

For those artists living outside these regions wishing to apply, three Cosmic Break slots will be chosen from performers applying nationwide. Complete details and music submission information can be found at www.ourstage.com/go/10KLF.

The 10,000 Lakes Festival continues the 'Help Us Help' campaign in 2008, an initiative giving back to the community through matching each dollar donated by patrons at online ticketing checkout. Proceeds go directly to worthy charities, split evenly to organizations including: the Becker County Humane Society, The Rex Foundation, Conscious Alliance, Detroit Lakes Public Schools and more.

Discounted festival tickets, campground reservations and complete festival details are now available online at www.10KLF.com. New in 2008, multiple festival ticket packages now exist, including an option to secure rare festival poster artwork bundled with event tickets with the 10KLF Jim Pollock Poster Package, featuring two VIP passes, a VIP campground vehicle reservation and two limited edition Pollock 10KLF prints only available through this package deal.

10,000 Lakes Festival Confirms Initial Lineup

Concert Celebration Descends on Northern Minnesota July 23-26

The sixth annual 10,000 Lakes Festival (10KLF) is proud to announce the initial lineup for this year's celebration of music, nature and community. Held July 23–26 at the Soo Pass Ranch in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, 10KLF continues to grow as Al Schnier guitarist from moe. calls the 10,000 Lakes Festival "one of those great spots you tell all your friends about."

With over sixty bands on the final lineup, the 10,000 Lakes Festival announces initial artists for the 2008 event with performances from:

Phil Lesh
Phil Lesh & Friends
The Flaming Lips
Michael Franti & Spearhead
George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic
Mickey Hart Band (featuring Steve Kimock & George Porter Jr.)
Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood
Slightly Stoopid
Dark Star Orchestra
Panjea with Michael Kang
JJ Grey & MOFRO
New Mastersounds
Everyone Orchestra
The Wood Brothers
Cornmeal
WBPN
The Hue
With over forty additional acts still to be announced

Along with these artists, the OurStage 10KLF Cosmic Break Tour presents emerging musicians nationwide with the chance to perform at this year's festival. Artists may simply submit their music on the OurStage 10KLF channel without charge and then it's up to the fans to decide. Based on OurStage's fan-rankings, 50 bands will be selected to perform at 10 regional tour stops throughout the Midwest this April. At each stop, five bands will take the stage to perform live where the band with the most audience votes at each show receives a paid performance at 10KLF in July. www.ourstage.com/go/10KLF

Located off the beaten path in Minnesota's pristine North Country, the New York Times praises 10,000 Lakes Festival's "enticing" wooded and lakeside camping grounds, describing them in last year’s Summer Festival Guide as "perfect for long walks."

While such long walks can certainly be relaxing, they are by no means necessary. The festival's five different concert stages are strategically placed within short walking distance of each other. Over 600 acres of unspoiled lakeside and forest camping provide an unusually tranquil and natural festival setting.

Event tickets, campground reservations and festival details are now available online at www.10KLF.com.

if I was in a "tribute" band like DSO, i wouldn't play at festivals that include Phil & Friends and Mickey Hart Band in the lineup. don't get me wrong, i would probably watch them if phil and mickey weren't there... i know they will probably still pack people in to the their tent/stage area, but it doesn't make sense to me.

i mean, phil or mickey would never go on tour with DSO opening... thats the best analogy I can come up with right now, even tho DSO will probably play a different stage and day than mickey or phil, but if I went to this fest, DSO is the last thing i'd worry about checking out.

mickey hart band w/ kimock?!?! thats gonna destroy.

Am I looking at the same lineup as the rest of you? I guess you all can't live without your Bisco, but if you would have seen them at 10k last year, you would be able to. Maybe I just don't care as much about Dave Matthews, 311 or John Mayer as the rest of you, but I think this festival looks far superior to Rothbury. Sure Rothbury has Zappa Plays Zappa (saw them last year at 10k), Tea Leaf Green and Sound Tribe, but 10k has Flaming Lips, P-funk, Scofield with MMW, and Mickey Hart. When you consider that this is only about 25% of the 10k lineup and Rothbury's lineup is probably a lot closer to being complete, people should reserve their judgement a bit. Rothbury may have some better bands, but it has a LOT of worse bands too, Modest Mouse, and all the ones I mentioned above (DMB, 311, etc).

I'll tell you for a fact that Ween is playing 10k...just wait, you'll see. (Deaner said on ween.com that they would be playing in Minnesota in late July). Nonetheless, I think it is shaping up to be a great festival. Needs one more big headliner (WSP), maybe some moe, and a bit more bluegrass, but I bet this is going to be the festival of the summer this year. 10k is going to draw in a lot less unsavory characters imo...having said that, I would be going to Rothbury too if I had the $$$, but since I can probably only see one festival in July, it's gotta be 10k.

hey, 40 more bands to go! ease up. anyway, apart from the shitty flaming lips, this line up looks badass. phil & friends, p-funk, mickey hart, and cornmeal-not to mention that beautiful northern minnesota camping and pleasant july weather. rothbury also looks very nice.

the real problem is that even with 40 more bands to be announced, tickets for Rothbury go on sale next wednesday...they need to release a lot more before then to sway a lot of people who have to choose.

I think this will be another great 10k. Personally I'm pretty pleased with the initial lineup because they've managed to add something new to the festival they haven't had before (The Lips, Franti, Mickey Hart and George Clinton) while not selling out like Bonnaroo. I don't know about you but I don't want to see Widespread, Trey and Cheese headline every year, not that they aren't amazing, but I want something different.

Don't bitch yet, Phil and the Lips will play the main stage two nights but there's at least one more headliner to come and about thirty other bands to round things out. Go Lake Sallie!!!

Exactly Ston. Trey Anastasio will be added in the next announcment. 10KLF always waits to announce their other headliners. I think with all the festivals haveing their lineups announced already, they want to get theirs out too so people can start planning their trips.

ANDVON- That is a great point. The line-up is good, but not yet to the level of rothbury. it would be great if they announced a few more good act before rothbury tix go on sale. get the BLACK CROWES,NORTH MISSISSIPPI, ROBERT RANDOHLF, MOE., then were talking.

I'm sure this festival will amount up to what it always does, a fantastic festival. It just sucks that they can't get their full lineup on here as soon as Rothbury did. This initial line up is kinda weak, but it is the latest festival in July and has plenty of time to add on. I'm surprised no one has complained about Slightly Stoopid.

I would just like to know why people get excited for p-funk. Don't get me wrong, in their prime they were one of the greatest ever, but I saw them a couple years ago and it was god awful. man ive gotta say even though there are still 40 more bands to be announced, this is a pretty weak lineup. i went to 2006 and 2007 10klf and they were absolutly exceptional but im just really disappointed so far. and with the sick lineup the rothbury is offering i think i might see myself straying away from the sweet sunny weather of northern minnesota.

sure this may not be as huge an announcement as rothbury, but it's only initial. personally 8 stages is too big for me anyway. i look forward to seeing who else will sign on...and why the f does everyone still ride trey's jock? many names i'd like to see, anastasio not included. as a vet of many a phish show you don't have to convince me of his guitar abilities, but you gotta be on a serious candyflip to think anything he's done since the late nineties holds any weight.

I'm sick of all the complaints also. If you guys haven't noticed, 10k does this every year. They always add on some SICK ACTS last minute. I've been to 10k for the past 3 years and they never let me down. And about Rothbury, yeah they have an insane line up, but it comes with a rididulous price that isn't worth it. Langerado has the best line up yet and their price at the door is still cheaper than Rothbury. If rothbury sweeps people away from 10k then GOOD! I don't wanna camp with the DMB, 311, or Jack Johnson crowd anyway. That will help keep our amazing fest chill too cuz it won't be overly crowded like bonnaroo which is just selling out. I can't even imagine mixing the metallica crowd with the jack johnson and O.A.R. crowd mixed with the Phil Lesh crowd. Sounds like all the different clicks at high school which blew ass! What were they thinking?

amen santacruzin and drfunkinstein and the others who realize this is the initial lineup and more stellar acts will be announced. yes I admit initial disappointment at seeing the lineup but then i realized july is a long way off and before full acts are announced and MORE IMPORTANTLY the way the acts will be scheduled. scheduling will determine for a large part how much my freinds and i enjoy a festie. getting burned when choosing between favorite acts can make or break the overall FEELING of our festival EXPERIANCE. I will probably hit up both rothbury and 10k just because they will likely offer two completly different festie experiances as well as (somewhat) completely different acts. Ambiance is the key at these things people. I will sacrifice the ambiance at rothbury for a lot of stellar acts that I cannot see elsewhere. for chill times with good friends and laidback camping neighbors I'll go to 10K.

I am sick of everyone saying things about Rothbury! Bonnaroo's selling out with Metallica and Kanye but Rothbury isn't? Why? They have John Mayer, 311, and (I know he is an advocate for marijuana) Snoop Dogg. All of these bands have MTV written all over them just to name a few. Snoop is the same as Kanye except he has a fucking reality show. Thats not selling out? If thats not then I don't know what is. John Mayer will probably do a duet with Jessica Simpson as the closer of the festival. Idon't even know why 311 and Slightly Stoopid are playing any festival. They have no business touring anyways.

I think 10klf will hold it own. Went last year and had a blast. I think they may have annouced at the wrong time with little of the line-up out. People are still shocked offer Rothbury taking the #1 spot from Roo, and with Allgood pulling out all the stops with there line up it hard to compete. But at the end of the day I am sure 10klf will deliver, just not enough to get my broke ass cross country again. Beside my bro is a big DMB fan, god help him.

For the record, I still have nightmares from the Mickey Hart Mystery Box sets I sat (not danced but sat) through during the further festivals in 96. Nothing quite as bad as that reggae/rap Fire on the Mountain that he does. Note to all, the Mickey Hart band isn't nearly as cool as his Rolling Thunder CD.

WELCOME TO JAMBASE'S 2008 BITCHFEST. I remember this one time when music and festivals were fun and people got along and accepted everything and enjoyed their weekend. If you want to go to Rothbury or Allgood then go and have a good time and tell me about it. If i could go to every festival i would. If you'r so pissed that no one booked your fantasy lineup, sit at home and watch all your favorite concert DVDs in order, i dont really give a fuck. Ill be at 10k (hopefully with trey playing shit off horseshoe) and im sure i will meet thousands of cool ass people and beautiful women. Sorry for enjoying myself. my bad

Well I dont think that this line-up is quite as bad as most people seem to think. However it dosent impress me. I would kill for some real variety that could still fit into the jam scene. How about the Drive By Truckers, Black Keys, or some of the modern psychedelic acts such as Dead Meadow. The average jam band fan could easily get into these great acts, and it would add some much needed life into what is a stale festival.

One More Thing (I may be killed for this one)

Could we possibly fit one more Dead project or cover band on the line up, or how about every member of phish with a new booring project. With the people behind this one I wouldnt be surprised.

Eventhough I will not get what I really want with the other 40 bands, I will still go and have the time of my life.

Not to add to the negative comments all over jambase but, slightly stoopid! Are you serious, they do have some in the pocket grooves but the once the singer opens up his fake wannabe voice its all over. Slightly Stoopid lives up to their name.

10klf definitely has the best camping and festival experience, but the initial lineup they've posted has me a little disappointed. Musically, I think the All Good Festival might be the one to hit this year.

In all fairness though, 10k does this every year. They always announce the lineup kinda late, and wait until a month before the festival to post the heavy hitters. Remember, they've only put up about 25% of the acts that are gonna be there, there's still 40 more bands to go. The past two years I have not been let down, so I'm on the fence with this one. I have a feeling they're gonna add some pretty good shit over the next 2-3 months.

I thought we were all supposed to be positive people with good light hearted minds. Too much negativity in this crowd! keep it crunchy and take it like it is without complaint! Don't even know why I'm going to comment on this, but here we go: hello people this is basically the same "festival" lineup as every other fest going on this summer, give or take a few artists/bands. 10k is in the BEST location hands down for a festival. I mean where else can you sleep comfortably in your tent w/out sweating balls and being woken up by brutal heat? Not at the Roo, summer camp, or waka! I've been up to the North Wood for the last 2 10k's and have had a blast. The Flaming Lips put on one of the greatest rock shows around, so eat it haters. Thanks for the "inside scoop" on STS9 though, but I bet that STS9 will have something to do w/Lolla, Perry loves them and they've been involved w/it for the past 3 years.

The lineup for Lolla will be the most diverse, and will probably have a handful of these same artists too I guarantee it.

^ If u like political bullshit and listening to the same shitty songs every show then yes flaming lips put on the best rock show around. Nothing tops langerado and mountain jam. Camp Bisco's lineup hasn't come out yet but that always has great acts. Rothbury does look good, but its just an overload and way too expensive.

Well....I'm not going to hold my breathe, but I am going to cross my fingers. With so many festivals now, and some with such amazing lineups, we are spoiled that we can have such various and broad choices. I'd love to see two nights of Radiohead, but travel all the way East?! And shell out $258 (wtf!) a ticket?! Regardless, I hope they can pull some strings at 10KLF and make it magical again...not like last year (a lil disappointing).

No. Unless you're an idiot, there is definitely no cop situation at 10k. I've been to 10k for the past 3 years. The only reason there was a situation last year was cuz two people died. 10k is way more chill than roo or waka. And I'm sorry but Rothbury is just ridiculous. It is 4 days long just like 10k. Yes, it does by far have the sickest line up, but there is no way you'll get to see all those bands. Even at 10k which offers around 50 bands, you can't see them all. And 10k always makes the best schedule. I saw 20 bands at the MOST when i was there. you only have a certain time period there. Rothbury is trying to offer over 70 bands with 8 stages. Unless you plan on hopping from stage to stage to catch a song or two from every set, It's just not worth it to spend over 500 to have to choose between sts9 and mmw, or yonder and keller, or zappa vs. wsp, etc. Because, in the end, you will probably still just see about 20 bands. And i'm sure you'll probably pick the ones that really matter. And the one's that really matter will be at 10k or All Good for much cheaper because they leave all the bullshit bands out of their line up to keep it chill. Peace!

I probably saw 20 bands at the MOST. reason being because you're only there for so long. Rothbury is trying to have over 70 bands with 8 stages. Unless you plan on hopping from stage to stage to hear a song or two from every band you want to see, there is no way you'll get to see them all. it just doesn't seem worth it to spend over 500 dollars to have to decide between mmw and sts9, or keller and yonder, or zappa vs. wsp, etc. Because in the end you'll still see about 20 bands during those 4 days. And if your argument in return to this is that Rothbury offers some bands that you would never see at 10k or All Good like Snoop or John Mayer. Well yeah, it would be pretty dope to see them, but Mayer and Snoop are also not worth 500 bucks. So everyone have fun spending 500 bucks to have to decide between sts9 and mmw with the joy of hangin out with the dave crowd blasting dave right next to your campsite. Peace!

I can understand people not digging the lineup this year. I've been there the last 3 years and all have been great in their own way. This year, it seems they have a riskier lineup...Secret Chiefs 3 and Dub Trio are hardly festival veterans...at least for these kinds of festivals. They are welcome additions in my opinion, and they are part of what makes 10klf great. This year is going to be insane! DSO kicking things off on Wednesday? Cornmeal bringing us their version of bluegrass and stomping the night away. Leftover Salmon? Phil? The beauty of the woods and lakes? The awesome weather in July? Oh man!!!! Ican't f'n wait.

I am definately pumped for wookiefoot. I missed them last year (well... kinda). I took some acid for the Family Groove Company show and one of the two people that died happened to die right next to me, causing quite the bad trip. I caught one wookiefoot song (first time I saw/heard them) that night and it was freaking me out so I had to go back to the campsite. Since then, after listening to them on the Harvest Fest sampler, they have become one of my favorite bands of all time and I have bought all their albums. I CANNOT WAIT FOR WOOKIEFOOT!!!

Thursady:Franti & Spearhead / Mickey Hart Band and P-Funk late night Friday: ????????/ Flamming Lips / Wookiefoot late night

Saturday: Leftover Salmon / Phil and Friends and MSMW late night

There is some wholes in this schedlue I have a feeling we may see another headliner be announce if ticket sales are good.

There is a gap in Tom Petty's tour that puts him in Minnesota at the time of the festival. They would have to switch some bands around.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree with the guy above me on the Flaming Lips' front. I've tried to figure out why people like them, but whenever I listen to that swill they call music, I just want to pull my hair out. Aside from that, this lineup isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. I'm tired of the constant "Oh my God, no moe.?!?!?!?!" and the "Where's my Umphrey's" that clutter every festival page. Do you need to see those guys EVERY single time? EOTO is dope, Kinetix is a sick up-and-coming band, Franti isn't my fave but still puts on a good show, there are still acts to be announced, and hello....P-FUNK IS PLAYING A LATE NIGHT SET!!!!!

I would DEFINITELY love to see some more Dumpstaphunk! They were amazing last year. One of the best shows of the weekend. Also, I hope they bring back Moses Mayes!!!

All this praise of the worst live act around: PFunk?

Yet no stoke or mention of Leftover Salmon, who are amazing???

Man, this is an ass backwards world we live in.

Either that or a back asswards Jambase community....sorry but I had to say it.

REDHEAVEN... I would like to know why PFUNK isn't one of the best live acts around. Those dudes can get your grandparents dancing.

deep banana blackout as a latenight is pretty weak sauce in my opinion. Thats the only thing i dont like about 10k....just not that much music and not enough to do late. Phil, Dark Star, Mickey.....im not even that big on the dead. Mickey will rock face though. But cmon, you gotta get a little more diverse acts than that, those are some of the more popular acts at 10k this year. With the little time for music they have at 10k, lots of it is going to be grateful dead....could be awesome, or could be a red flag depending on how you look at it really. MSMW is one of the best though, so dont miss them. But them and Secret Chiefs 3 are really the only other ones that excite me greatly...Im sure it will be a good time though, this is a great fest

This looks good to me! No more Mega Fests & Huge Crowds for me thanks.

If you have never been here its worth the trip for this lineup. Great people, Great venue, Great camping, No hassles ect. Ticket sales will be down this year, and how couldnt they be with the explosion of big festivals this year. This place could probably accomodate 50,000-75,000?" So there is going to plenty off room to camp, dance & chill. Have Fun

Woohoo!!! The lineup just keeps getting better. The last announcement we got some Family Groove and Wookiefoot. Now they add Papa Mali, Lotus as a late night set, God Johnson, and one of my favorite local bands ULTRAVIOLET HIPPOPOTAMUS!!! I can't wait. There is more to be announced also!
