Asia New Album/World Tour

HIGH END PROG-POP QUARTET
REUNITES FOR FIRST NEW STUDIO ALBUM IN 25 YEARS

The original line-up of '80s super group Asia - guitarist Steve Howe (Yes), drummer Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake and Palmer), singer-bassist John Wetton (King Crimson) and keyboardist Geoff Downes (Buggles, Yes) – have completed work on their first new studio album since 1983's Alpha. While the quartet has toured on & off since reuniting in 2006, Phoenix (due in April on Frontier Records) is their first new original material in 25 years.

“What we set out to achieve way back then - timeless music that only sounds like the four who created it - is what we attempted to bring to Phoenix. Still, it remains contemporary and refreshing to us all. Nothing more, nothing less. This is the Asia story, and it remains the same today - so listen on, and enjoy," says Downes.

The group's live shows include material from the members diverse careers as well as their Asia collaborations, which some may recall spent almost nine weeks at Number One on the Billboard charts when the band debuted in 1982.

Fuck Yeah!!! I've been waiting all year for this announcement. Knew it had to be coming! What?!? No Omaha love from Asia. Oh well, guess I'll be making the trek for the Milwaukee show at the Pabst Theater. Oh man, this is the HEAT OF THE MOMENT folks! Can't wait to hear the new stuff. Anyone know where I can find some lossy mp3s?

Good Evening. I'm Tom Tucker. In other news, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Australia and Antarctica are also reuniting. The group will be called "Pangaea" and will be joined on mandolin by former String Cheese Incident member Michael Kang at this summer's Rothbury Festival.

Dammit, if I only woke up 1 hour earlier I could have been the first to post "you framed an Asia Poster" congrats gmoo. Asia has some serious talent, but the list of things I'd rather do than listen to Asia is longer than the miles they'll log on their world tour.

Youngsters:

First of all, Steve Howe is one of the most amazing guitar players on the planet, who blows away 99% of the "Jamband" guitar players of today. Ask your hero Trey what he thinks of Howe before you diss the guy. I guarantee you he would have amazing things to say. Secondly, Carl Palmer is as equally talented on the drums as Howe is on the guitar. Not to say that the popular material of this band is the greatest ever recorded, but these two guys are among the best EVER at their craft.

Thirdly, Roger Dean is one of the most incredible artists ever to create Album Covers or Concert Posters in Rock and Roll History, and his work is very much deserving of a frame, to say the least.

I have to agree with marcsmall1. Steve Howe is one of the best guitarists of all time. He is very fluent in Classical/Jazz/Rock/Prog and can even play some Country/Bluegrass shit! If you have never seen him live, then you are truly missing out on brilliance! Carl Palmer is also on the top of the drummers list for all-time. The talent mixed in from Yes, ELP & King Crimson is mind blowing. I also agree with marc about the pop tunes recorded by Asia. Not the best. Kind of corny. Very much made-for-radio. But, I also believe that these guys will rearrange the tunes for the live setting and put together something amazing. I'm going to check 'em out!

no one is denying that this band is comprised of members with considerable talent.......however, i feel as though this is an excellent example of a situation where the sum of the parts far exceeds the whole (in other words, these guys individually and with their other groups are WAY BETTER than they ever were with asia). i am familiar with asia.....typically as the punchline to a joke, but am a big-time fan of king crimson and, to a lesser-extent, yes. i would be curious to find out from the self-avowed asia fans when the last time they threw on an album and rocked out.....perhaps 1985, in your i-roc, mullet flowing in the breeze, wearing those new acid-washed jeans?

The fact is no one cares about your degrees or how many pluses you have, you sir are a douche nozzle; hmm I rather do enjoy that word too(thanks muffin man) The fact that you judge your being by what you have and done makes me laugh the hardest. Delray Chris--Kicking the scene? C'mon, man, you live in Florida, where there basically is no scene, and all the "puffing" that you're doing is on wet moldy south fla nuggets that would just give most of us a headache. Seriously kid, You should really think before you make some of the comments that you do. Have fun at Crazy Fingers.

I think it was first used in the Lenny Kravits review... I am probably going to be forced to go to this show folks. My wife loves (loved) Asia in high school. Please be gentle with the insults. If anything just have some sympathy for me. Personally I preferred Yes. Asia was probably an attempt to break into some radio play with Heat of the Moment. Remember ELP? That is where Carl Palmer came from. Not too many "greatest hits" hits from them. Either way, I know I can drink heavily if things start going south quickly.

The tough-guy jam band fan wants to scoff, but I did see Asia on the Alpha tour (was my 1st concert) and for what they are, Prog/Pop, they do it well.

That said I know I'm not getting any cool points for saying that.

I'm not so sure it is "gay" as it is elevated testicles a la Jon Anderson of Yes. I know is sounds easier to say, "Gay",.. but elevated testicles is in fact the proper term.
