STEVE KIMOCK & FRIENDS RETURNS TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

Steve Kimock
Steve Kimock gets back to his Bay Area roots with a very special lineup of old and new FRIENDS. SK&F, Kimock's feel-good side project for more than a decade, will rehearse and perform in Northern CA from March 9-16, 2008.

Kimock is basing the group around an old friend, the great, Melvin Seals on B-3 organ and keyboards, along with prodigal son, John Morgan Kimock on drums. Joining them are, veteran Bay Area bassist and Bonnie Raitt Band music director, Hutch Hutchinson and singer/songwriter Billy Goodman, of the Goodman Brothers, the band that first brought Kimock West to the Bay Area in the mid 70's.

Fans will be treated to new songs, being incubated in the Kimock laboratory, known as the performance stage, as well renewed renditions of acclaimed Kimock standards and covers.

3.13 Great American Music Hall - San Francisco, CA
3.14 Great American Music Hall - San Francisco, CA

I can't wait to eat some 'ice cream' at the GAMH! Would you rather have a Melvin or a wedgie?

yeah time to come back south Kimock!!!

I think thats way cool Melvin is playing with him... nice treat.

Kimock and Fareed Haque, and Buddy Guy are my favorite living guitar players.

yawn. Kimock has changed bands more times the last 2 yrs than anyone in musical history. He should never have moved from Marin to Philly (what musicians live full time in Philly?), perhaps this is the reason he keeps changing bands. SKB was the best Kimock group - he should never have traded Rodney Holmes for his son (no offense John Morgan, your talented, but not in same class as Homles) and should have kept playing with Reid Mathis and Robert Walter. Until Kimock gets a core band together for tour, I'll pass on seeing him anytime soon

Senor Kimock and his prodigal son live on the East Coast and spend most of their time in Bethlehem, Pa. You can see little Kimock play with an array of bands...check out Post Junction or the Octave Below..you can find them on myspace. John Morgan has a long way to go and their are a few drummers in the Lehigh Valley especially Bethlehem, PA that can rival that kid...he just had the luck of being born to a dad who has musical roots. Don't get me wrong Kimock is good but he has a way to go before he makes that big of a name for himself, he is getting to play with some of musics classic players which will make him even better over time. Good for father and son...

I agree.. Rodney is pretty darn un-touchable. He blows my mind.. I truly thought he would never leave SKB, he was the only permanent fixture it seemed.

On the brighter side, I would like to see where Rodney goes to next, he is ONE of the best drummers in all of usa.. I remember seeing SKB in atlanta, and Steve was lost in a slow solo, noodling along, when suddenly Rodney RIPS this drum solo, snapping Steve out of his reverie. It was cool cos Steve was like.. enough. back to the song :)) he was totally cool with Rodney flexing his muscles :P

Sounds good....I think Steve is torn between his "two homes," almost like he wishes he was on both coasts. Being a Californian, I was able to see most of the line-ups starting with Zero...personally I like KVHW the most, but we all know what happened there. I feel more fortunate than those on the East Coast, especially in the mid-90's, when it seemed like he ONLY played in Nor Cal. I LOVE Steve Kimock. Commenting on the previous opinions of the line up changing so often, I have a feeling it is because of the social dynamic. Steve seems like a tough cat to get along with....especially when there are those in the band that showcase themselves and not just let Steve do what he wants.

natey - interesting comments. perhaps he is tough to get along with. But lets remember that core Zero played for about 15 yrs together. SKB with Holmes lasted maybe 2-3 yrs. Than Steve decides to move to Bethlehem / Philly where he grew up and could buy a huge farmhouse or whatever to store his million guitars. He basically disbanded SKB after Jam Cruise 4 - exactly 2 yrs ago. Holmes now sometimes plays with Jim Weiders Project Percolator (with Mitch Stein - is that his name? - who also played with SKB on occasion). Yeh, yeh, I love Kimock's guitar playing. But I'm also fed up with the - now I wanna play with ALO, or new monsoon, or ratdog, or Everyone orchestra, or zero, or whatever. Cmon Steve, make up your mond bro!!
