Feist Wins Shortlist Music Prize
Feist |
Just one day after we tell you about her tour (announcement below), Canadian singer Feist wins the Seventh Annual Shortlist Music Prize for her album The Reminder. Feist is the second female artist to win the prize, following Cat Power who won the award last year. Feist was chosen by a panel of five Listmakers: recording artists Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) and Ronnie Vannucci (the Killers), journalist Rev. Moose (CMJ), radio DJ Chris Douridas (KCRW) and the hosts of Hunnypot Internet Radio.
In a statement, Listmaker Gary Lightbody called The Reminder "the album of the year for 2007 or any year I can think of: it's modern and classic all at once. There are so many kinds of beauty in this record."
Feist is the first Canadian winner of the Shortlist Music Prize, joining Irish singer Damien Rice and Icelandic band Sigur Ros as Shortlist winners who hail from outside the U.S. Previous winners also include American artists Sufjan Stevens, N*E*R*D and TV on the Radio.
The remaining nine finalists for this year's award were Arcade Fire, Burial, Justice, LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A., Spoon, Stars, Wilco and Working for a Nuclear Free City. The finalists were selected from the initial Long List of 54 nominated albums.
Feist Sets Spring American Tour

There's a strong argument to be made that Feist won 2007. From indie darling to iPod commercials, Grammy nods and even a hot slot at this Weekend's Grammy telecast, Leslie is now a bonafide star. And get this, she's even going to sing at the 2010 Winter Olympics where she will join Ron Sexsmith, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and other noteworthy Canadians at the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad Countdown Concert.
But long before ski jumps back home, Feist will sandwich a U.S. tour in-between her Australian and European dates. Catch her while you can.
