More My Morning Jacket Rarities At The Beacon

My Morning Jacket performed the third concert of a four-night stand at the Beacon Theatre in New York City Saturday night. Just as promised – and continuing the trend of the first two Beacon performances – Jim James and crew added a number of rarities to the evening’s setlist.

The band wasted no time treating fans to a sparsely played selection, opening the show with the first “Butch Cassidy” since 2013. After running through “Get The Point” from their The Waterfall LP released earlier this year, it was back to bust outs from their album Evil Urges in the form of “Librarian” which was played for the first time since 2013, followed by the first “Look At You” since 2012. Fan favorites “Heartbreakin Man,” “Lowdown” and “It Beats 4 U” along with newcomers “Spring (Among the Living),” “Only Memories Remain,” “Big Decisions” and The New Basement Tapes’ “Quick Like a Flash” helped shape the career-spanning set.

Deep cuts like “How Do You Know.” “Rollin Back” and “The Day Is Coming” were also incorporated into the night’s wide-ranging setlist. The band’s first performance of The Tennessee Fire track “If All Else Fails” since 2011 (and only third time overall) came toward the end of the main set that also featured a take on the Monsters Of Folk song “The Right Place.” A four song encore built of the well-worn “Remnants,” “Highly Suspicious.” “Lay Low” and “I’m Amazed” capped off the night in NYC.

MMJ return for their final show at the Beacon tonight, Saturday, November 28.
