Marah Cancel Entire Tour

Marah
Just one week after the release of Angels of Destruction, Marah have apparently self-destructed, canceling their entire tour for "personal reasons."

The message on the band's website reads:

Due to personal issues within the band, Marah have made the difficult decision to postpone their January and February U.S. tour dates. They hope to reschedule the tour for later in the year and will make sure to keep their fans posted.

There is considerable speculation and discussion on the band's fan board found here.

Sources near to the band revealed that in addition the cancelling of the entire tour, the rat died and the whiffle ball bat had to be disposed of.

You guys who are trashing this band are all losers. I CARE. These guys are one of the best live bands out there and have been at it for 10 years, the breaks just haven't gone their way. Get a life and go read an article that you care about instead of shitting on a band going through tough times. I for one am really sad for this band, yet another band lost to the perils of life on the road. Hope they can clean it up and make another go at it. They're great guys to boot. Had the pleasure of drinking with them til 4 am one night in Chicago (tells you a lot about their life on the road). Long live Marah.

The couple times I've had the chance to see them (including a stellar Thursday night show at Roo in 2006) have been absolutely wonderful. It's a damn shame things have gone south. The new album has received positive reviews all around and seemed to be garnering a little mroe press than their past releases. Shame.

I'm sorry Keith... I find your post a little contradictory. You say have sympathy and then relate a story of them hanging out drinking until 4 in the morning?!?! I'll always have sympathy for someone having a tough time. Its harder to do so when it is self-induced or not deserved. Either way, I care, but I don't think the people who don't are necessarily losers. I'd would say that someone that needs to "clean it up" could certainly be considered one though...

Good Evening. I'm Tom Tucker. In a related story the members of Marah ate spagetti for lunch. Details at 11.

from a myspace blog:

Hey Everybody,

The News:

Yes, Marah has recently gone through some personnel changes and we will do our best to reschedule these American tour dates as soon as we possibly can….I can assure you that the European tour is on and it will be mega!

In Other News:

Tonight at 8pm EST, WFUV Radio in NYC is playing "Angels of Destruction!" in its entirety. It's album of the week, and some people have told me that that's a pretty big deal! I'm gonna listen. A lot of people are saying some pretty great stuff about our new record. Most of them sense a feeling of forward motion or something bubbling underneath its surface. I'm pretty sure that this feeling is me taking control of my band and its music once again.

In the beginning with Lets Cut The Crap and Kids In Philly, I was chasing the music, consequences be damned, and if there were other people in the room at the time, I wouldn't have really noticed. Very recently, I've been getting that feeling again. (I gotta be honest…I really don't remember making a couple of those mid period albums.)

The six members of the "Angels of Destruction!" band could not agree to do these tour dates together. On my hands and knees, they could not agree. In the face of a civil war, a hostage crisis, ultimatums, whatever, I was being forced to make what I strongly believe would have been a musical regression. I could NOT allow that to happen. What we essentially had was mutiny. They were my crew, so they knew what they were doing (in the words of Gomez Addams, "good play, old man!"). Consequently, they've been set adrift in a life boat and I wish them luck.

For these untimely events to occur on the Eve of Destruction as it were, I understand it seems dysfunctional, self-defeating, career damaging, whatever…but to us who remain, it's all gotten a bit too prophetic, spooky even…Now it's time for us to get the fuck outta here and start racing towards redemption, and fast! With the best interest of the music in mind, we are more than fine. Our principles and spirit remain intact. Score!

Due to the intimate relationship of this band and its fans, it's understandable that there would be anger, sadness, rage and confusion surrounding all of this. Let's just take a deep breath and share a moment of silence for every soldier who's ever died along "The Road to Rocksville". God bless us all.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have an appointment with my therapist.

Thanks for your support,

David "there was a time when I didn't talk" Bielanko

i give a 3 of 5 b/c i love the band but this is sad. stuff happens.

red red wine, you would do best to do more research before making blanket statements like "a bunch of fans that have never heard of you" i find Marah to be an exceptional rock & roll band. their set in 2006 at austin city limits festival was a really amazing set. Go listen then make judgments. Please understand that jambase has evolved. some of us early fans of the site (i've been on for years back when gadiel 1st moved to the bay and b4 that) are still just jam fans. others like me listen to rock, world, reggae, jazz, bluegrass, acid, house, hip hop, indie etc etc.

try not to be hatin'! i hope y'all are okay Marah and thanks for the report, jambase.

I had tickets for the St. Louis show. I am very sad now. I too saw them Thursday night at Bonnaroo 2006. They have a killer live show. I was really looking forward to seeing them again.
