Great intitial lineup! What, they have about 60 or so more bands to announce.

Also... to the Wookies... please stay away again! Last year was fantabulous without you. We didn't have to worry about stolen stuff, overzealous cops, etc...

This has a layer of heat just cooking underneath. They should add the Black Crowes/NMAS combo. All festivals should do that. Waiting on round 2.

I'll tell you what's weak...the people that IMMEDIATELY start to bash the festivals on their "initial" line up. Seriously, people, what's the deal...not enough "face melting" for ya?!?! F'ing tweakers! Perhaps, check out some of these bands now before the full line up is announced so you have a head's up on what to see and do at Waka. That walk to the main festival grounds when it's 100 degrees is a blast.

Jeez, how about recycled? Other than Cake, which I think will be a blast, I've seen every artist on this list countless times.

I do like that they tell you they confirmed Ozric's visas this year though...

Get original guys...look at Langerado if you need some inspiration.

Luthur, I cannot agree with you more.

Also, this festival is a breath of fresh air from most festivals. If you do not like this initial line-up that is fine. Stay away. They are going to add more bands from the waka winter fest and more national acts galore. Please, I have been around music for a long time and if you could hold your negative comments about festivals to yourself that would be great. The festival season is a special time and people spend many hours working for the money to afford one or two or make a serious effort to get to as many as possible with some sort of sacrifice. If they choose a certain festival over another then let them revel in their decision. You do not have to jump on every opportunity to say your festi is better than any other. We should all focus on the bigger picture of promoting live music and the feeling that ALL of these festivals bring to their patrons.

I look forward to being entertained by over 50 bands this summer thanks to the few I choose. "Hope to see you there."

The initial lineup has a lot of bigger names (Which are the ones i ironically dont really care to see) But Ozrics actually showing this year will be a great first timer. And David Grisman will also be a good first timer. Cant wait to see what they bring next time around. I remember MMW, Galactic, and Les Claypool were all in the second announcement so we have a few more big names left. But Lotus is on fire right now, and im glad they will be at Waka for the 4th or 5th time in a row. cant go wrong with keller, galactic, buckethead. All were missing is Eoto and Zilla projects (sporque too!). And The Everyone Orchestra.....must bring the E.O

jespisito - Yes, it is worth it. I've been there the past 4 years. 1 bad year with overzealous cops. Last year, almost no Woookies and few cop issues.

moephishh20 - SLR has played a few shows since he passed. They guy that runs Waka is/was their manager. Or his company is. Something. Anyhow, they were the traditional closing band since they are local boys.

The Flaming Lips are over rated.......... I mean sure if you like the circus, you'll love them, but if you're a music fan I don't see what you see in them. All they do is make you whatch them spend a shitload of money on special effects. Give me a break, I couldn't beleive how many people went to see them at Roo last year. C'mon go check out some real music, with some real musicians whith Gov't Mule.....

Other wise the Line Up looks stellar.

Wakarusa 06 was the best lineup yet. Tribe, Bisco, Pgroove, Lotus, Yonder, Mule, Keller and the Keels, Les, Buckethead, Future Rock, so many good bands. If they put up a lineup that big ever again I'll do my best to make it back. Great location for a fest, swimming and all! Lets see what else they can do to this lineup so far. Sorry everybody, but festies just ain't what they used to be. Ahh....remembering the old Wilmer's park festies10 years ago...now that was a FESTIVAL. private land...NO COPS WHATSOEVER...all kind heads...no stupid RAP blasters (you know, the ones that open up the doors of their car or truck in the campground and blast stupid f-in RAP music so loud that no one can listen to their own boomboxes...yeah, even though we were hippies, we still had an etiquette of our own such as do what you want as long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else's good time). It's just not the same anymore. kind head's younger brothers and sisters found our music, but no one shared our culture of kindness with them. these young kids have grown up watching MTV and have rap's bling, sleazyness and selfishness bred into them. RAP music teaches you to want nothing more than BLING...MONEY...and WOMEN ARE HO's. Real festies of yore were ALL KIND PEOPLE. you guys are scared of the Wookies? I don't trust this younger geberation of festival goers at all. I feel sorry for you people. You missed the real deal. festies today just want to make money and the security just want to take your shit. F these huge money maker festies...I'm only going to smaller ones this year...better vibe without all you young F_cks there. go listen to rap...steal shit from your friends...treat your women like ho's...I know it's all you want to do

yea, pharmer.. you sound like a real upstanding citizen. festivals are going to be whatever you make them. if you look for the sketchiness, you'll find the sketchiness.. if you look for the loads of great people, music, and good times, you will find them. simple as that.

now that i live so close to kansas, i'm thinkin about this one for sure.. the cop situation in that entire state is out of control, though.

Dreaddyknowsbest, the 60s and 70s are over!! Yea, all of those bands were "classics" back in the day. And they were classic, idk about Rod Stewart tho. He always seemed like "adult easy listening" crap to me. Just because you were alive and "privledged" enough to see Jerry Garcia play "70 times" doesn't give you the right talk down to us younger kids. So go sit in your baesment, listen to your tapes and burn a doobie of your beat middy herb you got on 70s Dead tour. Let the kids have thier fun, cuz you just "old and in the way". And if you can't handle that, suck on my nuts and jump through a flaming hoop of bullshit.

I won't be making it to Kansas, Dorothy, but having Alejandro Escovedo and the Old 97s on the same bill is smoking. I do know that Alejandro has been confirmed for three days.

How Rod Stewart got thrown into this thread, I have no idea, but his work with the Faces is legendary; so rock n roll - the same kind of stuff the Crowes are made out of.

i don't know if i'll be making this trip all the way from pennsylvania. but when i did in 2005, waka was one of the best musical festivals ever. the cop situation was a bit out of control, i was one of the people that got my tent raided and all my schenanigans taken...but supposivly that situation got fixed this past year. ::did any 07 attendees have problems with security or the fuzz?:: the lips, bucket, 2 sets of FUCKING OZRIC is enough to drive to kansas for, plus lotus and tea leaf...and folks this is just the initial, if mmj and/or panic gets a slot...i think i might just have to go.

Last year the cops were better but I still saw my neighbors get their wrists and ankles zip-tied (writs behind the back) by the police. All their belongings were taken and they were "arrested" (possibly just kicked out of the festival) I have been to many festivals of all sorts and I think I have actually seen all of the artists scheduled to perform on the initial list (besides Ozric). I am only 4 or 5 hours away but unless they post a night or two of panic, some yonder, a little derek trucks, a bit more claypool (or anyone else great that has played there) or some new acts, sadly, I will not go. and we all know that the flaming lips always put on the exact same show.

"Security" in 2007 was lax. They hired a veteran festival security staff that had worked Phish festivals in the past...and it showed. For those clamoring for more, keep in mind that there is usually around 80 acts for the fest which would leave room for about 60 more to be added. RAQ, YMSB, STS9, Pnuma, MMW, The Duo, moe., Bisco, Hot Buttered Rum, Railroad Earth are some of those who I could forsee being added. The hoopla surrounding the '05 fest caused a drop in '06 attendence (not all bad) which makes me wonder if they are working with the same funds? Someone mentioned that they didn't like how the attendence at some fests have gotten out of control...that is definately the appealing thing about Waka is that they cap attendence around 15k. They never wanted to be the biggest, just a solid lineup, a great site and good people. For the most part, that mission has been accomplished every year.

I own all of the Lips albums and a DVD and consider myself a pretty big fan, but I, like SCIFreak chose to see a truly killer Mule show instead of watching Wayne roll around in a balloon at Bonnaroo '07.Sometimes when you've been there and done that(maybe even a couple of times) you just don't enjoy it like you did the first go-round.

I have a great time every year at Wakarusa. It is one of my favorite festivals that I've ever been to and I'm patiently waiting to see Delta Nove on the lineup! Of all the places in Kansas, you gotta love Lawrence!

the first time i saw LoS i didnt "get it" (August of 2003 in Sedona, Arizona). i was there to see Keller tear it up. I was triping on mushrooms that day but of all their tunes "Hey Woody Guthrie" stuck with me. I cried during that song. A month later i saw YMSB at ACL and became a bluegrass fanatic. When Leftover came back to Arizona (Flagstaff) in December they blew me away. I cannot wait to see them again! People have been bashing Wakarusa but I think with them and keller plus the other bands they are going to throw in (come on guys you know they will have some more big artists) i think it's going to rule!

**If someone says the Lips are more original than SCI than you obviously haven't been to multiple Lips shows. It's the SAME SHOW everytime, and I'm a Lips fan-I'm just sick of how UN-original their live shows are.

On another note the initial looks good. Buckethead, TLG, and Keller will be fun. Add another solid headliner, Yonder, moe., Butter, and EOTO and I'm there.
