Iron Maiden Jets Into '08

METAL MASTERS PILOT THEIR OWN PLANE
ON 2008 WORLD TOUR

Flight 666
The Somewhere Back In Time Tour will keep veteran British metal kings Iron Maiden busy for the better part of 2008. The shows will focus on their '80s catalog as well bring out stage pieces from that era built around their legendary Egyptian Production on the 1984-85 Powerslave tour. This year's set will also include some key elements from their Somewhere In Time tour of 1986-7, such as the Cyborg Eddie.

This first leg of this 2008 world tour will open in Mumbai, India on Feb 1, and continue through Australia, Japan, Los Angeles and Mexico, followed by the band's first ever concerts in Costa Rica and Columbia, and then on to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rica and New York, before finishing in Toronto, Canada, on March 16. Over the 45-day period Maiden will likely play to well over 400,000 fans in 21 cities in 10 countries, flying close to 50,000 miles in a specially refitted plane.

"I have been flying commercial passenger jets for Astraeus Airlines for a few years now and we are commissioning an Astraeus Boeing 757," says lead singer Bruce Dickinson. The aircraft went in for an overhaul, painting and conversion in November, which Dickinson points out, "it could possibly be flying commercial air routes decked out in Maiden colors for a couple of months before we start!"

Uber-bassist and Maiden founder Steve Harris comments, "l always loved the Powerslave show, which I think was arguably our most spectacular ever, so taking it out again is really going to be a lot of fun. Taking our own 757 really makes it a lot more flexible for us and we intend to ram into the specially constructed cargo holds as much of the show as we possibly can. The schedule we have been able to put together due to this flexibility l think is very exciting, taking us to some places we haven't been in a long while like Australia and some we have never been to like Columbia and Costa Rica. It is always refreshing going to new places and we hear the fans there are incredible! It's a lot of flying but will be well worth it."

Fans also have multiple opportunities in 2008 to fly with Captain Dickinson at the helm. Bruce Air will be traveling to the Super Bock Super Rock Festival in Lisbon, Portugal and metal's Valhalla, the Wacken Open Air Festival in Hamburg, Germany, as well as a special London-to-NYC trip in March. Visit the official Bruce Air site for full details.

Here's the schedule for the first leg of the Somewhere Back In Time tour. For info on the second leg and further on visit JamBase's Iron Maiden page.

Up the friggen irons! It appears not until after August is when the bulk of the American tour will hit. I hope they make it to the South. Last time around, D.C. was about as far South as it got. Great live band.

Maiden old and washed up? Do yourself a favor and do some research before speaking Toeknee. Never again confuse this band with other shitty Bonnaroo headliners.

I seen Iron Maiden at the worcester centrum "somewhere in time" tour. At the time (1986) it was one of the best shows out there. Nobody else had 60 ft eddies on stage. Bruce could sing too. Run to the hills & 2 minutes to midnight. Now I'm a deadhead go figure!

ok -- so you either live in LA or you need your passport -- is it dickenson or not? -- has eddie aged? ha ha -- i'm wondering (w/o hating) how much do they really compare now to when they were at their best, because i've heard more about cat stevens than the maiden in the past decade & a half.

These guys are still phenomenal live. Really dedicated bunch and Bruce's voice is still that iconic, operatic wail. More North American dates will be announced early next year.
