U2 3D is an upcoming concert film shot during the U2's Vertigo tour in South America set for release in selected cities worldwide on January 23. Celebrated comic artist-storyteller Frank Miller says, "I saw U2 3D and I thought the 3D effects were not just remarkable but historic…the film has ushered in a new era for 3D."
The film runs 92 minutes and features 15 songs taken from over 700 hours of footage shot at seven different shows in 2006. Nine pairs of Sony CineAlta 3-D cameras were used, making it the first-ever 3D multi-camera live shoot. Songs featured in the film include "The Fly," "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Vertigo."
National Geographic Cinema Ventures picked up the film, directed by Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington, for international distribution. U2 3D will open in 3D ready theatres and 3D IMAX theatres. See the trailer at the official movie site and here.
