TOMMY GUERRERO: RETURN OF THE BASTARD
(Galaxia Records; February 26, 2008)
Bay Area icon Tommy Guerrero has a pretty sweet life - sweet like the easygoing, toe-tapping melodies of his music. Guerrero celebrates the 10-year anniversary of his debut album (Loose Grooves and Bastard Blues) with a new release on Galaxia Records, Return of the Bastard, due out February 26, 2008.
Guerrero, whom NPR aptly called a "one man groove factory," plays bass, guitar, kalimba and percussion through the album's 15 tracks. There are additional bits from Chuck Treece on drums, Brazilian artist Curumin on vocals and Fredo Ortiz on congas.
Tommy Guerrero's recordings are marked by soulful, atmospheric instrumentation. They are the amalgamation of tunes that stream through his head, usually captured on the first take. They are timeless soundscapes to your laid-back afternoons, or mornings or nights.
Return of the Bastard is TG's eighth release.
