Big Boi Solo Album/Andre Movie

Outkast's Big Boi Set To Release Solo Album in Early 2008

Big Boi
Outkast's Big Boi is set to release a solo album next year but has made it clear that this is not the end of he and Andre 3000's working relationship.

The album will be called Sir Luscious Left Foot. There is no official release date at this time, but the record is slated to hit streets in early 2008. The first single from the album will be released at midnight on New Year's Eve according to Big Boi.

Speaking about the record Big Boi told Vibe magazine: "I want all the stuff to be '08, everything to be brand new. I'm going to put 12 songs on [Sir Luscious Left Foot], I'm finished with like nine right now. Production is by Organized Noize."

An Outkast album is set to follow Big Boi's solo effort; although no rough date has been set for the release.

As Big Boi readies his solo album, Andre Benjamin (aka Andre 3000 of course) will co-star in the Will Farrell basketball flick, "Semi-Pro."

haha. I love how rap albums "hit the streets," as to just being released. A midnight single release? Well, I know where I'LL be at midnight?! I read "somewhere" (might have been Esquire), that Andre might be playing Jimi in the next Hendrix movie?

"Thanx Gangstabase!" -this is quite the ignorant quote. i am sure you would rather be reading a story about the type of toilet paper dave schools buys.

These guys are great. i have to agree with doblejota83 that was a pretty stupid quote. Heaven forbid people on this website get exposed to any other type of music. P.S. I hope Andre does play Jimi. Who better?

in the hip-hop world, the bands are in the shadows compared to whoever the rapper is. There are a few that's bands are equally as good as the rappers, The Roots and The Coup's bands are SICK. There are a lot of bands I don't consider jam bands on here so why comment on outkast, b/c its hip-hop? Yeah, maybe its pretty commercial now but they still bring it

Yeah, Outkast isn't a jamband, but I think anyone who has been visiting this site for a while should have realized by now that Jambase does occasionally write about bands that aren't jambands. Is that really so bad? It's not like the direction of the site has changed or anything, the focus is still on the jambands and live shows, and I'm sure a lot of people here do like Outkast, they're a good, creative rap group, with a wide audience, who yes, does put on great live shows.

I hope it's better than the last two duds these guys have put out. everything up to and including Stankonia was genius. But the last two have been utter busts.

have to agree with LiberalsForMike... and yeah, I can vouch for them being a great live act. Saw them in San Francisco a few years back, pretty spacy, live band, Atlanta cowfunk, just dirty spaced out funk...

Outkast is one of the few rap groups/artists I still like. I agree that their last two albums were less than stellar, but in my opinion ATLiens is the second best rap album ever made, next to The Chronic. If Andre would go back to rapping and stop trying to sing like Prince they'd probably put out a solid album. Oh, and as far as them with a live band, I saw them in 2001 and they did have one. It was the best rap concert I've ever seen.

Philhitz, I agree Outkast may be difficult to just flip on and dig right away, especially if you're not familiar with their body of work (I agree seeing Andre play 3 chords while performing shirtless would be a major turnoff, but it's not crap, these guys, along with Goodie Mob have set the tone for a branch of hiphop in the early 90's that can't be f***** with by any means.) I recommend Crown City Rockers' "Earthtones", Binary Star's "Masters of the Universe" and possibly Ozomatli's first album if you wanna "broaden" with rap of any sorts.

nice to see this covered on Jambase, just cause they don't play jamband concerts does not mean they don't fit within the ideals that appeal to many "jambanders" if it was lyrics born, the roots or gza the genius would ya'll be complaining, cause they got booked for some festivals and were exposed to narrow minded jamband heads who only accept high pitch guitar noodling ?

Tim 9...Yeah, I agree The Roots crew can be called a "band", but are you kidding me? By no means do they just "HAPPEN TO HAVE AN MC" as if Black Thought didn't just "happen to start the project in the first place". What a joke. Would you say that about Kamal Gray or Ben Kenney? Or any other "band" member of this "band" that has juggled more bass players and on-stage lineups than if Steinbrenner himself were the "band's" manager. Probably not, because apparently you have no f'n clue what you're talking about.

I dig Outkast a lot, and I'm one of the graybeards around this site. Very inventive stuff, and I'm more than happy to read about it here. Always good to see what is out there- you never know what is going to trip your trigger- worht keeping an open mind. I thought the movie they did, Idlewyld, was cool as hell.

As far as Andre playing Jimi, I was under the impression that Don Cheadle is going to both direct and star, at least the project that is authorized by Jimi's family. Maybe there are more than one Jimi movies in the works?

Southernplayalisticadillacfunkymuzic - Every single track is recorded with a live band. Also happens to be one of the tightest hip-hop albums of all time.

R.P. - I appreciate your obvious passion for The Legendary Roots Crew. It was in response to an earlier post that seemed to point at Black Thought and Rahzel as being "The Roots" while all the people playing instruments behind them are just some band they take on the road with them. I thought that was a misguided appraisal that needed correction. Apparently my sarcasm went unnoted. Black Thought is extremely underrated, IMHO. I'm also guessing Will Farrel is going to tear up the court.

first of all, RP McMurphy's a cool name. Dig the reference.

Second of all, everyone knows that the Fugees' "The Score" is the single greatest hiphop album of all time. Right?

Even the show listings are all over the charts, ranging from Every Time I Die to Mustard Plug to Cornmeal. Plus Outkast is so Pimp. I can't wait for this movie, solo album and the next Outkast CD.
