The Breakfast
It's with regret that The Breakfast has announced the departure of longtime bassist and friend Ron Spears. Ron has been with the band since its inception in 1998 and has been playing with guitarist Tim Palmieri and drummer Adrian Tramontano since 1993. Ron and his wife are expecting a baby in Spring of 2008 and Ronny will be pursuing a career in teaching.

"After much soul searching over the past year I have come to the decision that I can no longer commit to the goals of The Breakfast. I have spent the last nine years fully committed to the success and touring of The Breakfast; however, I feel that my aspirations have changed, as they sometimes do in life, and it is now time for me to follow a different path. This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. Being a part of this band has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life, full of memories and familiarity that I cannot soon forget. I wish my friends and band mates nothing but success in their musical journeys." -Ron Spears

Palmieri says, "We are sad to lose a musical brother on stage and we wish Ron and his family all the best with everything. He is an inspiration to us all and we will keep the music going in honor of his spirit and hard work. We are currently auditioning bass players and plan to keep touring in 2008."

Spears will be finishing the year out with five shows left on the calendar. Gigs include this Saturday's (12/08) Asbury Park appearance at The Saint, River Street in Wilkes-Barre (12/13), Middle East in Boston (12/21), Toad's Place in New Haven (12/29), and New Year's Eve at the Electric Company in Utica, NY.

They should get Reed Mathis to replace him.

i've had sort of a b'fast tribute day today, listening to all the studio albums in progression and to a few live shows as well... and if anyone is ready to dismiss ron's talent as a bassist, you're all wet. being a (mediocre) bassist myself, i listen to the bassists' contributions a little more closely than your average listener and ronnie tears the roof off the sucka! from the more delicate songs ('? and the mind', 'vera street', etc.) to the funky ('score', 'may fly disarray', 'gravity', etc.) and the intense rockers ('doughboy', 'intension', etc.)... RONNIE KNOCKS THAT SHIT OUT!!! the parts just mesh so nicely with adrian's parts and compliment tim & jordan quite well. his style is also very different from most bassists of the "jam" scene, so i don't how easily finding a replacement will go as their style is bound to be markedly different.

anyway, enough of that ranting. i just wanted to say 'thanks' to ron for some of the most memorable moments of the last 7 years of my life. i'll always look back on the 80+ shows i've seen and remember the good times i've had with the 'good time boys'.

that said, i'll always look forward to the breakfast coming around and i'll never stop supporting the band no matter what the lineup. stay strong, fellas.

Sad news. Ron's shoes will be soo hard to fill. He has a unique style and has developed a telepathic connection with Tim and Adrian over the years. It's really hard to imagine how this band will sound without The Save. There is no doubt in my mind though that Tim, Adrian, and Matt will find a new bassist and continue to do their thing (blow minds and melt faces). Long live The Breakfast!

Ya know, it tough road to hoe, being in a band that doesn't bring in the jingle. Time and the band have gone through some changes over the last year and a half. Bummer Ron, we'll miss you. You guys should be playing at Toad's on NY's. See ya the 29th anyway.

Hey now hoodooo - tacky comment. I know you are referring to Mathis filling in with TLG, but really, man ....

Yeah, this sucks. Seems like they were just hitting their stride after picking up Matt for the keys a few months ago. Ugh. I really dig these guys. Hope they can find a suitable replacement.

Let's remain optimistic about this band's future. A shakeup in the lineup could be a blessing in disguise in the end. As crisp and solid as Spears' bass playing was, he had to go do his thing with his family, and at least he left the band on friendly terms. And furthermore, its hard to imagine the remaining members hiring an unsuitable and dud replacement. It could give them a chance to get even more creative and explore new territories. As classic as old Breakfast was-- I hear you phishphreak77-- these guys are young and still full of tastey ideas. We'll see how it all shakes out.

Good evening. I'm Tom Tucker. In a completely unrelated story, Ron Spears and his sister, Britney will be starting a new band called "The Lunch," which will be starting a world tour in the Spring. Says Ron, "What kind of a name for a band is 'The Breakfast' anyway? WTF was I thinking for all these years?"

PoRNoFUnK, is there any chance you're thinking of Earl Greyhound? Their drummer is a "huge mother fucker."

I'm pretty sure that Adrian is often mistaken for a huge black man. It must happen all the time.

Tom tucker, they used to be the psychedelic breakfast, after pink floyd's alan's psychedelic breakfast, they switched the just "the breakfast" a few years back, not sure when, 2001, something like that.

ron - thanks for all the memories.

save side fo' life.

good luck teaching history.

god bless you and your family.

hopefully the breakfast can bounce back from this and hire a new bassist. it will be tough for anyone to fill ron's shoes, and no one knows what the future will hold for the breakfast. if anyone can pull it off, the breakfast sure can. at least i hope so.

Hey which guy is the lead singer? It wouldn't be the dude standing 10 feet in front of everyone else? No wonder the bassist left. "Being a part of this band has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life, full of memories and familiarity that I cannot soon forget. I wish my friends and band mates nothing but success in their musical journeys. Also I hope my next band won't have a dorky singer with nappy hair and geeky glasses"

Man, what's with bassists these days?!! Does Reed Mathis or Ron Johnson have to play in every jam band in the country? :) Good luck w/ your family & teaching, Ron!! Maybe Arne Livingston is available.

Oh, do all musicians leaving bands use the same "I'm leaving the band" form letter. I think they just change the name of the band & how long they played in it. I swear Ben Chambers, Ben Combe & Ben Bernstein all said the same thing. Note to Tim: Don't hire anyone named "Ben." Nice guys, great musicians, but... & I thought Teabagger's comment was funny as hell! I've always confused Adrian w/ Buddy Miles myself.

I'm sorry to diss the Breakfast. I have since learned about them. From L to R: Mr. Clean, Munchkin Man, Chad Kroeger, and Ricky Martin. Lighten up people, its only a band. I will say this: I enjoy breakfast as a meal. My apologies to pornofunk (who obviously wants naked pictures of me) and Sammy Davis, Jr's big fat ass.

pete, please flex your internet muscles somewhere else.

Ron is a great guy on and off the stage. his presence will be missed but the show must go on and the 08' schedule is filling up so come on out and give them a shot. luckily we don't have people like the above mentioned to bring down the vibe.

This is a band on the rise, hopefully they should be able to find someone great to lay it down. It won't be easy to re-create the chemistry overnight, but there is enough talent in this group to pull it together.
