RUSTIC OVERTONES TO PERFORM FIRST NYC SHOW IN SIX YEARS
Previewing material from their upcoming 2008 Velour Music Group release,
Light at the End

Rustic Overtones
This summer, a crowd of 6,000 assembled in downtown Portland, Maine to witness the return of the hard-hitting, horn-powered group Rustic Overtones, which had played its final show in Portland some five years before. The show marked a massive re-launch for the biggest band ever to emerge from Portland, and The Portland Press-Herald enthused: "In perhaps the most highly anticipated event in local rock history, Rustic Overtones, Maine's groundbreaking rock group, has reunited."

Rustic Overtones are now returning to NYC on December 6 at the Mercury Lounge – their first Manhattan show since August of 2001. The seven-piece band will be showcasing songs from their upcoming debut for Velour Music Group, Light at the End, as well as classic older material. Produced by the legendary Tony Visconti (T. Rex, Morrissey, David Bowie) with long-time band friend Jonathan Wyman (Seekonk, Stars Look Down, The Killing Moon) Light at the End showcases the band's fiery rhythm section, ignited by blazing horn riffs and Dave Gutter's soulful vocals, on songs such as "Rock Like War," the funk-singed "Troublesome," and enigmatic "Black Leather Bag." But the band also can pare its sound back to a delicate essence on songs like "Dear Mr. President," in which Gutter covers hot-button political issues with a light, innocent touch.

Rustic Overtones' new music reflects not only the band's newfound independence, but also their greater maturity. "We've always drawn from our experiences while writing our songs," says Gutter. "It's great to be back together and do that again. But we've also become better musicians and refined our own styles of writing and performing over these past five years, and we'd all heard each other's work, which raised the bar a little for us all... Getting back to that feeling, with somewhat more developed taste and musicianship, has been really good."

Rustic is a local band for me. Saw them about 7 times in the 90's in the Lewiston/Portland area and they always played with a lot of energy. I met Dave when he was relatively unknown, he was standing by the water cooler by himself at one of his OWN shows with hundreds of people and no one new who he was. I walked up to him and we said hi, and he signed something of mine (I can't even remember what), and then I left. After that he got mobbed by people. What a nice guy. Can't wait to see them again. I love the horns! Please come back to Bates College in Maine!!!
