36 Avicii Concertgoers Hospitalized After Boston Concert

It seems like each day there's a story in the news about an incident at an EDM concert or festival leading to deaths or injuries. The latest incident took place last night at Boston's TD Garden, where Avicii began a tour of the United States and Europe. According to NECN, local police said that "at least 36 people were rushed to the hospital and dozens more were treated for dehydration and suspected drug and alcohol use" at or around the Avicii show in Boston.

Thankfully, multiple outlets have reported that there were no serious injuries stemming from last night's performance. Though, not only were 36 concertgoers hospitalized, 50 additional fans were treated at the scene. The situation devolved enough that medical emergency services at the scene declared a "Phase 2 Multiple Casualty Incident," not a phrase we like to hear associated with a concert. The Boston Globe's report on the incident mentions that many of those hospitalized and treated at the scene were minors with NECN adding that "the ages of people treated ranged from 16 to 25." The Globe also reported that the venue was packed and temperatures were extremely hot inside the TD Garden. "You couldn't breathe if you were on the floor," one concertgoer told the Globe.

Avicii, aka Tim Bergling, tweeted about the situation late last night:

A spokesperson for concert promoter Live Nation told Boston.com that "the majority of the people treated were still outside the venue and too impaired to get in." Avicii's tour continues on Friday night in Uncasville, CT.
