Happy Birthday Robert Hunter | Americana Award

We'd like to wish a very happy birthday to the great Robert Hunter. Hunter penned the lyrics to many beloved Grateful Dead songs over the years including "Friend Of The Devil," "Truckin'," "China Cat Sunflower," "Box Of Rain" and "Scarlet Begonias." Robert embarked on a rare tour last fall and will follow that up with a series of shows between July 21 and August 2 and will even perform at this year's Newport Folk Festival.

Last September, before the tour started, Robert Hunter was awarded the lifetime achievement award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Jim Lauderdale introduced Hunter with a stirring speech before Robert accepted the honor. The California native then launched into a performance of "Ripple," marking his return to the stage after more than a decade.
