First Aid Kit are
no strangers to the art of the cover. Back in 2008, the Swedish sister duo became
something of indie-rock viral-video sensations, when they posted their take the Fleet
Foxes’ tune "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" to YouTube. Since then, Johanna and Klara Söderberg
have become critical darlings with their enchanting brand of country-infused folk-rock.
Earlier this month, the sister act released their third full-length effort, Stay
Gold, and staying true to their roots have not shied away from dropping a cover song
or two into sets on their current world tour.
While First Aid Kit has taken to performing nightly covers of both Bob Dylan’s "One More
Cup of Coffee" and Simon & Garfunkel’s "America," on Wednesday night the sister-act
debuted a cover from one of their contemporaries that was inspired by their appearance at
last weekend’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. During a hometown gig at the Berns Hotel in
Stockholm, Sweden, the band offered up a stunningly, sublime take on "Song From Zula" off
Phosphorescent’s most recent record, Muchacho. Take a look/listen:
As promised, here's First Aid Kit's Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel covers:
First Aid Kit continue their world tour on July 2 with an appearance at the Ruisrock
festival in Finland, and will return to the United States this October with a tour opening
show at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on October 24.
