Just listened to their new album last night. They need to cut My Morning Jacket a check. That and work on lyrics.

kirkbrew> could't disagree with you more. Perhaps you're suffering from one listen delusions of the new album. I know I felt differently about it after a few play throughs. I like BofH better than MMJ anyway.

TS - I'm going to give it a couple more goes. The MMJ-esque songs in particular are Detlef Schrempf and Lamb on Lamb. Too much reverb and very “airy”. MMJ do it because James can’t sing. These guys don’t need so much reverb.

Lyrically, Ode to LRC gets me (“The world is such a wonderful place” ad nausea) and No Ones Gonna Love You (sounds like a theme for some crappy teen drama).

I do have to say the album is very well recorded and the style of the songs is more diverse than MMJ.

No idea what the point Kellerhead is trying to make. Eh???

I agree with you all. I listened to this album at a local record store the other day to see what the hype is all about. Musically, it's not bad. Somewhat entertaining. But the lyrics are awful. I can't even sugar coat it and say that they're alright, or that some of the songs are OK, the lyrics are just plain awful. I am ashamed to admit this, but even Coldplay writes better lyrics than these guys (and with even more shame, I admit that Coldplay writes some good songs :)

check out their first album for some more perspective on these guys. i'll admit, i'm an old friend of ben's, so i'm a little biased, but the first album, everything all the time, truly is great.

I got the newest album on vinyl and enjoy it very much. Granted the lyrics aren't that complex but not everything has to always be deep. As far as the reverb it goes well with their melodic style.
