Sunday Cinema | Eric Clapton With Derek Trucks 2006

In the year 2006 Derek Trucks challenged his Allman Brothers band mate Warren Haynes for the title of "hardest working man in the jam scene," when he appeared with three bands in 17 countries. Much of Derek's 2006 was spent touring as a side man in Eric Clapton's band. Trucks was a perfect fit for Slowhand's touring band and handled many of the slide parts that Duane Allman made famous on the 1970 album Layla and other Assorted Love Songs put out by the group that Derek was named after - Derek And The Dominos.

Derek wasn't even 30 by the time he started touring with Clapton, but Trucks has always performed with the assurance, professionalism and skills of a guitarist twice his age. Sadly, there's not much in the way of pro-shot footage or soundboard recordings from Derek's tour of duty with Eric Clapton. However, we did come across a pretty good fan-made video recording of Clapton's November 11, 2006 show at Osaka Jo Hall in Osaka, Japan. We get to see Derek deliver the goods on such songs as "Got To Get Better In A Little While," "After Midnight" and "Layla." Hopefully EC will put out an official release from the tour, but for now let's check out slowhand's visit to Osaka with Trucks in tow:
