The New Deal Announces Return With New Drummer

Just over two years after ending a 14-year run of over 1,000 live shows in January of 2012, The New Deal has just announced their return. The jamtronica pioneers will play American festival stages this summer.

“It feels like the right time for us to be playing together again”, says bassist Dan Kurtz in a press release announcing the trio's comeback. “theNEWDEAL needed some time to find some new musical inspiration and get some perspective on what is important about what, and how, we play together.”

“We just needed a break to go do other things,” added keyboardist Jamie Shields. “When the thing you love begins to feel only like work, it’s time to step away.” While Shields and Kurtz will take part in this new era of the band, original drummer Darren Shearer will not. Toronto-based drummer Joel Stouffer (Dragonette) will be behind the kit for upcoming New Deal shows. Stouffer filled in for Shearer in 2011 after Darren broke his hand.

The band will announce summer and fall dates over the next week.
