Car Crash At SXSW Leads To Two Deaths & 23 Injuries

There's sad news from SXSW in Austin as late last night a driver reportedly crashed into a crowd of people outside of the Mohawk at 9th and Red River. The incident led to the death of two people and 23 injuries according to the Austin Police. The Associated Press reports that the incident stemmed from a suspected drunken driver fleeing police, who crashed through barricades and eventually slammed into the crowd, which led to the death of a man and woman on a moped.

The incident took place as the Mohawk was hosting a House of Vans show featuring Tyler, the Creator, X, the Black Angels, ††† and more according to Pitchfork. "We had a large crowd, I just thank God that a lot of the folks had already been pushed on the sidewalk or this could have been a lot worse," Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said at a press conference.

Watch the chief's press conference at the Austin Statesman's website. The Austin Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch with them. The suspect has been charged with two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle.
