Butch Trucks Sits Out Allman Brothers Beacon Show

The Allman Brothers Band's Beacon Theatre residency continued last night in New York City without a familiar face. Drummer and co-founding member Butch Trucks sat the show out due to an undisclosed illness. Guitarist Warren Haynes told the crowd Butch was under the weather as the show rolled on without him. It's the first known time in the last 45 years the drummer has missed a performance.

The band called upon another Trucks, Duane, to help out as well as percussionist Bobby Allende. Duane is both Derek's brother and Butch's nephew and is a member of Hard Working Americans. Fans were treated to a variety of setups with Duane and Jaimoe starting the night behind the kits and percussionist Marc Quinones moving over the drums for a number of songs at various points. Another tradition continued last night when The Juke Horns emerged for their typical weeknight guest spot. The Horns came out for "Please Call Home," "Stand Back" and "Same Thing" in the first set as well as "That's What Love Will Make You Do" and "The Weight" in the second. Tuesday night's performance also featured the run's second take on "True Gravity," which returned to the fold after nearly 14 years at Friday's opening show.

The Allman Brothers Band Beacon residency continues tonight. No word yet on whether Butch will be in his familiar spot on stage.
