Toubab Krewe New Year's Run

Toubab Krewe Announces Four Night New Year's Run

Toubab Krewe
Toubab Krewe will celebrate New Year's Eve '07 with four special performances: December 27 at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, December 28 at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, and December 30 and 31 at the Orange Peel in their hometown of Asheville, NC.

The run closes out an amazing year for the band, which has been credited with "setting a new standard for fusions of rock 'n' roll and West African music" (Afropop Worlwide). They kicked off 2007 in Essakane, Mali, where they played the legendary Festival of the Desert, known as the most remote festival in the world. Extensive tours of the U.S. followed, with the band playing over 100 shows, including sets at premiere festivals such as Langerado, SXSW, Wakarusa, High Sierra, 10,000 Lakes, Echo Project, Wall to Wall Guitar, and the Voodoo Music Experience. Along the way they played with luminaries such as John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Mike Gordon (Phish), Lamine Soumano and Tinariwen.

The band is currently working on their sophomore album with Grammy winning producer Steven Heller, which is slated for release in March 2008. They launch into the new year with performances at Jam Cruise, setting sail from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Roatan, Hunduras and Cozumel, Mexico on January 4.

New Year's tour dates:
12.27 | New York, NY | Bowery Ballroom (co-bill with Golem)
12.28 | Philadelphia, PA | World Cafe Live (co-bill with Golem)
12.30 | Asheville, NC | Orange Peel w/ special guests The Lee Boys

These guys have an ok groove, nothing I have not seen done better in my opinion. I saw one of the guys at Wakarusa complaining to the staff about them not being able to get him to a tv to watch sports because the satalite tv in their pervost bus that one of their dad's (some industry guy) bought them was not working. He seemed ungrounded to me for what they are doing and turned me off all together.

The reference was not sports, but the way the Toubab guy was treating the Wakarusa staff member. He was rude and demanding and I dont support that.....

These guys are a class act and a wonderful band. I've seen them a couple of times and they keep the place moving and grooving until the very last note. I really don't see how you said one of them was rude to a staff member at Waka. Maybe you just caught part out of context or something, because these dudes are laid back and pretty down to earth cats. I've met them and they are all very nice guys, who play some killer tunes. Def get out to see them if you can. Since I'm so close to A-Ville that's where I may be NYE. Closer than ATL and not as packed as Panic will be.
