looks like a pretty sweet lineup, minus R.E.M. they just don't seem like a festival band to me. nice and diverse though.

I agree with windorascrub......everything looks so good except for REM.....I would bet a $ that REM is a headliner at Coachella also......This little Florida Music Festival isnt so small anymore!!!

looks good. already booking a flight to miami. the seminole reservation is a big plus. this festival got a little expensive over the four - five day period (almost like vegoose). having to travel to different venues for different shows. Camping onsite is a big plus, with everything staying at the venue!

I think REM will be good...Everything else looks great too! Can't wait for Beasties and to see Phil again. I'm not too sure I like 311 in this mix at all though. We'll see how that goes I guess. I do like some MSMW,umph, bisco, the national, of montreal, mule, and theivery corporation is sick....

REM and Beastie Boys are headlining Langardo.. Yikes!! That's another blow to the Jam Community. Oh well. I like the festival for sure. Big Cypress is a great loacation. No STS9, that's weird. Other wise, good line up. I can't wait to know what latenights are going on. But didn't Phix break up??

Good line-up minus the Headliners poor choice, IMO. AND NO TREY!!! COMMON Big CYpress is his playground!!!

moephish > i agree with your additions. but i also think it's getting away from the vegoose direction. no more traveling through the city late night for late nite shows, i'm sure everything will be held on the reservation (ie: bonnaroo, waka, 10klf). which i prefer.

DONT EVEN COMPARE THE GOOSE TO THE RADO. NOT EVEN CLOSE TO EACH OTHER.

ONE MORE THING.....IT'S UNBELIEVABLE THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THE METERS IN. YEAH NEW ORLEANS SOCIAL CLUB, AND PBS ARE GREAT. BUT WERE GETTING THE METERS!!! LET'S JUST HOPE THEY DON'T FIND A REASON TO KILL EACH OTHER OR BREAK UP AGAIN BEFORE MARCH.

rje182 > Understand your point. I guess what I was trying to say was that the lineups in general have shifted from more of a "jam" to more (and I hate using this term) but "mainstream". Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of good music there (I like the addition of Built to Spill and others) but I guess I just miss the good ole' days of the original Vegoose and Bonnaroo...

1/2 this fest looks real real good. But after last year being the best land fest I have ever attended, I am very dissappointed in the overall lineup and am skipping this fest Much rather see Panic, moe, Galactic, Kellar, Taj Mahal, Franti, sts9, greyboys, Trey, mofro, on and on. I am kind of shocked that promoters (also promote Jam Cruise, Carribean Holidaze) decided to go Vegoose rout with the other half. Perhaps, with a much larger location, they had to change core focus, but to me, not worth flying from west coast and paying alot of $$ esp without no panic or moe

I guarantee that most major festivals will be moving away from the 'jam' scene to alternative acts. What quantifies alternative? Well, despite some REM records in the early nineties, they were understood as a quintessential, groundbreaking indie group in the eighties. The National gaining more and more attention. The Beastie Boys have always kept an alt edge, despite hit singles. Built to Spill, of course, top tier alt. And the jam master, Phil Lesh, is on the bill. I think this lineup is excellent, and would not be surprised if festies like Waka follow suit.

well... this festival got really big. and awesome. love the entire line-up except for 311, but that's not something to get fired up about. i really like the emphasis on more alternative/indie acts (of montreal, built to spill, golem, dr. dog) as well as the groove/funktronica/hip-hop acts (thievery, the roots, new deal, the duo, bassnectar, msmw, balkan beat box). a truly stellar line-up, with something for everyone.

i as well am a little underwhelmed by the headliners(other than phil) but having never seen REM or the beasties, im not one to comment on their shows. but it goes to show you that the "jamband" scene just doesnt have many headliners, other than phil or bobby, panic or trey solo. these festivals have to diversify otherwise itd be the same headliners year after year.

I'm really psyched about this festival. Being a "younger" jam fan, this will probably be the first festival I ever attend (aside from Newport Folk). As with many of you, I wasn't thrilled reading the first few names on the list, however, as I kept reading, there were more than plenty of bands that caught my attention. I think what is great about this festival is that there are so many bands that I've never even heard of. I'm psyched to learn a lot about new music if I have the chance to go, which I think is ultimately part of the point of big festivals. I think some highlights on this list are phil, mmw, umph, the avett brothers, and the funky meters. I hope Lango will consider adding some of these:

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings: saw them Friday...too much soul

The Slip: really established themselves this year; deserve a good slot

Assembly of Dust: some northeast love in a southeast party

YMSB: Just for the hell of it

Del Tha Funkee Homosapien: Not a typical festy guy, but could get a party goin'

Lastly, if Lango is happening at Big Cypress, wouldn't it only be fair to host atleast 1 member of Phish?

come come now haters 311 is pretty sweet live.it could be a lot worse like the white stripes or some emo band..if they added no1 else 2 this lineup id still be there.bisco, the new deal, bassnectar, the duo, umph, and the list goes on.i was at lang last year and ut was sick except for the late night not bein in the festi groundz.and now we hippies always claim to be ultra-liberal,but as soon as they diversify the line-up everybody starts bitchin like a bunch of conservative ass bush-votes.thats sum old bullshit if you ask me...give it a chance.yes that means dealing with a shortage of 30 minute guitar solos and dealing wit sum unsavory folks on the festi grounds.and hey if you cant put the haterade down for just a few days...stay the hell home, more fun for me and my crew.

I love how everybody is bitching about 311 playing at a jamband festival like it is something new. I guess nobody remembers back in 2004 when they were one of the bigger acts on the bill at 10klf. Come on people, if you are that upset that there is one band on the line-up that you don't like, maybe you should just sit at home so you can keep whining on the internet!

How do people find time to bitch about shit bands when theres at least 10 must see acts. No, I wouldnt go see 311 and Ani DeFranco because, I would be jammin out to Beastie Boys, Roots, UM, DB, RAQ, Govt Mule, New Mastersounds, MSMW and a handfull of others. Lets focus on the positives here!! Now lets pray these bands above dont have the same set times on dif stages.

EPIC!!!! They threw REM in there just to piss us off, but other than that i gotta say its going to be a really good fest... I cant wait for scofield. I hope he is part of phils band, im sure hell at least sit in for a song or two but it would be nice if he just part of the band for the night, time will tell. I can already tell you that the scomule that he is going to do with gmule is nasty. I dont even need to hear it yet. I already know. :) UM obviously is going to own... I used to like 311 when i was in high school but im a big boy now... The wood brothers, what can i say. I saw them at mountain jam a couple years ago. What a nice little show, it really made me feel peaceful. I was litterally standing 4 feet away from them. I could hear the voice without the PA i was so close. Never saw DSO but im going to see them this weekend in amhurst, there is a grateful dead seminar/workshop thingy going on and they are playing a show. Should be nice. Phix is good. I hope to god they dont waste a late night spot in 311. They shouldnt even be there. A band that should be there is ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA!!! Music is the best. if this show comes near you, dont even think about it, just buy the ticket. If you dont get down at that show, its obvious you dont have a soul... other hopeful additions: Brain Damaged Eggman!!, Norf Mississippi allstars, john mcglaughlin(his shows lately have been amazing i hear), keller's WMD's would be nice, im surprised the bush administration hasnt imposed sanctions on him yet, an old classic rock guy would be nice(pick any:clapton, jeff beck, stevie winwood, buddy guy, hot tuna, super allman brothers, neil young, robin trower, santana(as long as he only plays his pre-90's stuff-i wish rob thomas was never born), Roger waters or david gilmour for that matter, or both(dreams!), not rollingstones or aerosmith because they are horrible now. If you have to have something more mainstream why not try one of these guys instead of lame REM, i think alot more people would be happy.) Panic rocked my socks off last year at lango...

sick sick sick sick sick lineup.

This just might be my first Langerado

I agree with what others have said about resting up during the headliners (mainly REM) because you might be suprised with what the Beasties pull out. Their instrumentals are on point, mixed in with some of the raps....should be a killer show.

not to mention MSMW, the roots, claypool, grace potter, B/R duo...

and to all those unsure about blind melon...I've heard the new singer and he is amazing.

and did anyone see how pete francis and state radio are playing....do I smell a dispatch jam session ????

PS and also add sts9 and greyboy to the lineup (no trey though thanks.)

To answer your question volcan00, this is a "real" festie. All the music including latenight will be on site. Last time there was a show a big cypress the band played from midnight till sunrise. For all you haters of the initial line-up Beastie Boys will rock the house like no other. Mix master Mike is the man. If you don't like REM don't go, simple as that. Plus we've got thievery, MMW+S, DUMB, Claypool, The Duo, THe new deal and there will be more additions to this already sick line-up. It will be one to remember.

interesting lineup. a lot of solid acts. definately worth the price of admission. just one observation (one that a few of you have touched on already)...there are many acts this year that don't fit the typical jamband festie paradigm. i'm a little hesitant to use that description because of its pigeon-holing effect, and who really decides who's a jamband, but i think most of you get my gist. i haven't researched this but i get the feeling that langerado, bonaroo and vegoose are all run by the same folk (superflo? productions?) and they have all followed the same pattern. inject some more mainstream acts into the mix so that we can maximize the draw. don't know about you guys, but i don't care about the lineup if there are 100k+ people showing up. it's a bit over the top. any coincidence they moved it to a larger venue? i think not. they want more fat f'ing dollars.

Ritestyl, you are completely incorrect, all the biggest fests are being run by who ever pays for it. In all three cases it seems that its corporate interests, maybe less so for langerado but definetly vegoose and in bonnaroo's case there is just so much time to fill they have no choice but to have all our bands there...

All Lango needs is U2, The Spin Doctors, Bush, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Cranberry's and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and it will jam so hard. That would be a sweet latenight lineup. Who the fuck would want STS9 when u can dance to those bands. Oh yeah and i heard this rumor that the B52's are having a reunion tour around then too. REM is may be the biggest disco party ever.

Great lineup but......won't be going cuz no re-entry. That’s right, you get one entry to the music area per day. Once you leave your out for the day. Short of Jerry's return, I will never visit a festival like that. I wouldn't even call it a festival without re-entry. This is precisely the kind of bs that caused woodstock 99 to go up in flames.

cookoo Wed 11/14/2007 04:46PM
+1 Votes Thumbs down! Thumbs up!

Re-entry

When you arrive at Big Cypress, your valid ticket will be scanned for a festival wristband which must be worn at all times. You will be allowed to leave the festival grounds and re-enter as many times as you need to over the weekend, but please be aware that each time you leave, you will be subject to a thorough search at the tollbooths upon your return. Once inside the campgrounds, incoming traffic will prohibit your leaving until Friday evening, unless you are in day parking. Please make every attempt to alleviate any traffic by preparing yourself for four days of camping.

A day parking lot will be available for those choosing not to camp. Please follow the parking staff's directions when arriving on-site.

before everyone starts ragging on a legitimate band, i will submit a few words in favor of REM: 1) REM was a good band during the 80's, a time when good bands were extremely scant 2) REM practically forged a genre - their dreamy, pop-based rock music paved the way for countless modern "indie" rock bands (i.e. Radiohead, the Shins, Sonic Youth, Pavement, et al) 3) they made some damn good albums, like Document, Automatic for the People, Out of Time and Reckoning

Just wanted to note the inconsistency in the environmental cleanliness policy...I applaud the organizers for their use of environmentally friendly initiatives, but why are VIP ticket holders offered the use of a chartered helicopter to VIP ticketholders!! A helicopter for a trivial short trip into the festival grounds leaves behind a terrible carbon footprint!

"Additionally, attendees have the option to purchase all-inclusive ticket packages to the festival, featuring a hotel accommodations and transportation to and from the festival - whether by shuttle directly from the airport, shuttle from an official hotel, or even in a chartered helicopter!"

"In a continuing effort to make Langerado as clean and as green as the tropics that surround them, organizers will implement a wide variety of earth-friendly initiatives. Langerado will not only use bio-diesel fuels to power the stages and light towers, vendors are required to serve food on fully biodegradable materials and use 100% recycled paper products. Organizers have established festival-wide recycling, carbon-offsetting programs and the Greenerado EcoVillage, where artists will jam, activists will spread their messages, non-profits will showcase their efforts at sustainability and festival goers will learn how to take some of the eco-friendly practices they see at Langerado home with them."

I am not going to go crazy and say something like "the jam band scene is dead", but in order for an ambitious festival like Vegoose, Bonnaroo, and Langerado to attract the size crowds they want they have to start bringing in bands that don't exaclty fit into the jam band mold. Widespread Panic and Trey Anastasio could attract 70,000+ at the top of a jam band festival five years ago, but now the festival circuit is so saturated with more and more copycats forcing promoters to get creative with their headliners. Bonnaroo and it looks like the new and improved Langerado are still jam-friendly enough that one could conceivably attend an entire festival without having to see a band outside of the realm of improvisational/electronic/roots music, but you would be missing out. Don't hate the promoters they're just earning their bread, go with an open mind, see Bad Plus, Dead Confederate, Sierra Leone All-Stars, R.E.M., STS9 and some bands you've never heard of and I guarantee you'll have a rocking time.

Well played digmusiccitylive. I'm tired of the word "jam" and "scene" altogether. Most of the "witty" comments posted on here are either A. Clever attempts to bash Dave Matthews B. Obscure references to Trey's drug problems C. Whatever happens to arise in a bored dorm room after a few bong hits D. All of the above. Jaysus, it is what it is.

chooglin - why would anyone buy a $170 ticket just to go for the drugs.. i know plenty of fests that have have better drugs are are goin to be much more open bout selling them then Langerado will be, not to mention they will be less then half the cost.

Honestly I dont know what everyones problem with 311 is. The have an extremely good and energetic live act along with substantial talent. I understand the frustraion with the direction the fest may be taking, but its not like them playing is the end of the world, just see someone else. Its a fucking badass setlist, especially with the addition of STS9. I guess you cant make everyone happy...

Sound Tribe late night's gonna be straight as hell, son! ..As long as Bob Weir & Bobdog aren't headlining that night. Anyone remember what happened at AllGood?

It does have a pretty sick lineup, (trying not to follow the masses) but seriously, R.E.M.? They're like not even...good. Not too down for 311 either, besides them though, Railroad, DSO, Um, Pnuma, Keller, STS9, Bisco, and it's pretty cool that Mickey Hart's there. Oh! & The New Deal, good to see them back in the festi circuit, they go on such random hiatus's.

what? orgwell? what happend at allgood? everyone fell asleep??

i dont get the sound tribe live show rage. i like the music, will listen to a cd. but the live show...theres no energy. the music is very chill... when i go to a show, i want to be pumped up, jumping around, dancing like a crazy man. thats where you'll find me. newdeal, claypool, umphs, and biscuits. not no snore tribe..... and is it too much to ask for a omega moos set? ive always wanted to check that shit outt!

this looks badass. P-groove, robert randolph, state radio, avett brothers, 311, keller, beastie boys, claypool, lesh & friends. This looks sick. Why REM? Aren't they dead?

Sure there are other bands I’d like to see, and yes, some of these bands don’t intrigue me, but this is definitely the best Langerado lineup ever!

Kizzy… Wow, you have a way with words, that’s good stuff!

Orgwell… I, for one, remember Ratdog and Steve Kimmock playing an unexpected full show. Then half the people left and Sound tribe played (albeit well) to a half-sized crowd. I also remember a handful of drugged youngsters complaining that Ratdog wasn’t fast enough to dance to. I just figured the molly was too speedy for them to feel any emotion in music! STS9 did play a good show, and it really set the mood for that foggy walk back to camp. What do you remember about Allgood?

Some folks are not taking the "No sexist, racist..comments" guidelines very seriously. We have someone trashing Ani DiFranco, who, for the record, is bisexual and was married to a man for many years, and far more importantly, has a ton of talent and is a pioneering person, woman, "dyke" or otherwise, in the business of music- whether you dig her stuff or not, she is a giant. Then we have several anti-Jewish comments. Is that you, Mel Gibson? Loved you in Lethal Weapon. I always get frustrated on these boards when someone who disagrees with a band's sound or something gets instantly labelled a "hater." And yet, here is evidenece of REAL hate; is this the forum you really want to be in? There must be any number of websites on which to proudly flaunt your views. The whole music scene should be about erasing these outmoded and small-minded ways of thinking. Peace. Just my 2 cents, thank you.

breadloaf,

I have seen no evidence of antisemitism. I think its pretty much horeshit to have a jewish ceremony at a music festival though? Would you not agree that it might not be the proper time or place for that sort of thing?Similar to holding communion at the Roo.

Pudding: shouldn't you be allowed to do whatever you want at a festie... as long as you don't step on anyone's ability to do the same? I really don't think they're going to get in your face and try to convert you! I say that you can pray, meditate, take communion, or just zone out in a spacey trance… just as long as you don’t stop me from having my fun.

this line-up needs no saviour. When you have bad plus, minus the bear, vampire weekend, funky meters, and sound tribe all in one festival that is saying something.langerado knows what its doing. chill day sets and nasty late nights. sounds good to me.

Where can we find the lineup by day? I probably only want to do Saturday with the biscuits, MSMW, Duo, etc. I wanna see the daily artists again before I get a ticket.

The jewish comment is sad to see on a jam band forum, especially considering the deep impact jews have had on the scene. Theres one in every band! To be balanced though, I can understand objections to mixing religion and the scene with the shabbat, it can def be likened to communion at Roo, good one. It it good to celebrate ones culture, but i understand people objecting, considering how much blood spills over the issue
