Umphrey's McGee Busts Out Neil Young Cover At Tour Opener

Last night Umphrey's McGee kicked off a lengthy fall tour at Higher Ground in South Burlington, VT. The band delivered two sets focusing on older material with a number of choice covers thrown in including one they hadn't performed in over five years.

UM's first set was a giant "Pay the Snucka" sandwich as they both opened and closed it with the self-referential song. Included within were a number of classic originals and a cover of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl." The sextet last covered "Cinnamon Girl" back on March 4, 2008 - a gap of an unbelievable 639 shows. The closing stanza started with Umphrey's fourth version of "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers Band of 2013 and also featured a rare take on Motley Crue's "Dr. Feelgood" as well as fan favorite original "Front Porch." The Chicago-based band brought the evening to a close with a version of their own "Hangover" that contained Jimi Hendrix's "Who Knows" in the middle of it.

Here's a look at last night's setlist:

Set 1: Pay the Snucka > Push the Pig, Phil's Farm[1], Cemetery Walk, Prowler > Much Obliged -> Cinnamon Girl > Pay the Snucka Set 2: Jessica, White Man's Moccasins, Conduit, Dump City, Dr. Feelgood > Higgins > Front Porch[2] Encore: Hangover > Who Knows > Hangover
