For a short period in 1999 and 2000 Dickey Betts and Derek Trucks shared the stage as the
two guitarists in the Allman Brothers Band. Betts was dumped by fax in 2000 and was
quickly replaced by Jimmy Herring and then Warren Haynes. The two one-time band mates were
reunited last night when Betts sat in with the Tedeschi Trucks Band
at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
Dickey emerged towards the end of the TTB's main set for renditions of Allman Brothers
classics "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" and "Blue Sky," (with "Franklin's Tower" tease!) both of which were penned by
The legendary guitarist returned during the encore for a take on "The Sky Is Crying." The
Tedeschi Trucks Band brought the evening to a close with their Sly Stone medley of "Sing A
Simple Song" > "I Want To Take You Higher."
