damn, i was hoping for a little more on this, what a great fucking weekend, NOLA + Halloween= freakfest (pure gold).

no offense here ak and jambase, but is it time jambase paid for staff to attend/review a festy or two? VEgoose had a sweet ass writeup. why not voodoo in NOLA? kinda disappointed in this.

Fallout Boy?

The weather was perfect!!! More festivals should consider the weather. Only went the 1st day. Kings of Leon = very good, Rage = totally sick! Still a lot of work to do in NO. Keep re-building.

wow, triad 1, i'm wondering if you attended the same festival i did because i remember the kol blowing a** and making a snide remark to the crowd before leaving the stage. they had absolutely no stage presence and were rock star enough to blame the crowd for it. ratm rocked but played a rather square set... nothing compared to the last time i saw them at city park (lolla circa 199whatever). this set was more like "some of those who burn crosses are the same ones who show up late and leave early". they still rocked, though.

on the whole voodoo was LAME. many stages were riddled with tech difficulties (especially the local stage); there grounds went to shit (neglible crew); there were no garbages other than the ones already in the park; the lines were long; the bathrooms literally went to shit; they ran out of food and water; very few of the merchants were local - most corporate (playstation, crocks???); it was everything nola is not - and it rubbed off on a ton of fans and most of the musicians. Ben Harper was shockingly bad. it's amazing he could sound so tired right after releasing an album (which was pretty damn good). even "his steal my kisses" fans seemed mystifyingly bored.

if you're looking into visiting nola don't waste money on voodoo fest. it is a commercial machine that primarily supports corporate juggernauts. there's noting nola about it, and it won't help us rebuild. voodoo is certainly one of the most commercial and unquestionably the most horribly managed festivals in america.

ha! i've never gone to vegoose, but i'd certainly say that voodoo is more commercial than bonnaroo. at least they spared expenses for food, water, grounds, and disposal @ roo. voodoo was certainly a cut and run job. i've been virtually every year, and i can certainly say that it's going down hill. they def got their asses handed to them last year, but i wrote that off to the chilli peppers factor and that they were probably not expecting a sizable turnout due to the katrina factor. after this year's fest it's obvious that wasn't the case as it was even more ill prepared than last year's. after this year's turnout, i've decided to boycott voodoo - regardless of who plays.

also, to say that i expected this year's fest to be much different (given the fest's history) would be a lie. i made sure to sneak in enough food and water so that i wouldn't have to wait in those ridiculously long lines or waste a ton of cash on overpriced shite

OK. I understand and totally get what you're saying. I am really dissapointed about where Voodoo has gone. You stating the history behind it and sadens me even more. Of course, I was there '97-99 and '01. Those were some of the best music times of my life with my friends along with Jazz Fest '01. I also respect and take into consideration that fact that so many of you have experienced much more than I have, but I've been around the block in many cities in many countries too. It's not a competition.

The thing is, about how Voodoo has developed in the aftermath of Katrina, we need support the economical development of a local economy that has treated so many of us with great hospitality in the past and has had to rise from such depths. Failed on all levels; federal, state and local. It's gone back to it's roots. And if having some mainstream artists perform at a venue (many venues) that was once featuring bands like MMW, Mule, Project Logic, The Slip in their making, WSP, Denson, Walter's Congress, Vida, those amazing superjams and the so many other bands that I just don't feel like typing out right now, well, maybe it will bring that back. I really think that we're close to having that happen again. Nawlens is the type of place where all that can happen. Unfortunately, because of what happenned there, it needs a little time.

Now, I'm speaking of times that may not have been Voodoo. Just those amazing five day sessions over the Halloween or pre-Halloween weekends.

What has happenned to Bonnaroo and Vegoose (already!) is depressing to me to compare a festivel from it's inceptional line-up to what $uperfly gives us now. Nawlens is such a special place that I hope you and others will have hope and give support to achieve what once was.

RATM and black Crowes. 2 good bands? damn, that's worse than that one festival in Vegas. i forgot it's name though?

i hear exactly what you're saying. i was at those voodoos and jazzfests too, and they were awesome. the main difference between the old voodoo and the new voodoo is that the old voodoo wasn't so blantly commercial. there was as much better sense of comradery there too. these past few fests have been strictly about the $$$. and i don't mind the mainstream artists if they bring people to nola. what does get me is that when a band like the chili peppers brings an estimated 90,000 to the city, that the festival showcase nothing local. and the park is dirty. and the lines are long. and the food runs out. and the bathrooms are a wreck. etc. etc. etc. there is no authenticity to voodoo anymore. it's become... get the biggest bands and skimp on everything else to maintain a profit margin. really, are getting bands like rage and the chili peppers worth, not hiring a sanitation crew? maybe for a while, but as the weekend lingers on and trash piles up and the grounds go to shit because there aren't any trash cans and nobody bothered to hire a grounds crew, the whole festival atmosphere goes to shit. and it's obvious; people get tired and frustrated; the artists sound tired and frustrated, and i complain on this forum. whatever. i know it sucks to cut out local merchants and all, and maybe food and water aren't really that necessary, but things would have been so much better if there would have been people working to keep it clean. that's all i really would have liked (not to have had to keep my trash in my backpack because there wasn't any place to put it).
