Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton
Three Nights Only at Madison Square Garden, New York
02.25 - 02.28

Winwood & Clapton by Gene Shaw
On the heels of a stunning collaboration at the Chicago Crossroads Guitar Festival (check out the coverage here) in July of 2007 and after much speculation, Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton announced three eagerly anticipated concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden. In what will be one of the must see shows of this decade Winwood and Clapton will perform together February 25, 26, 28, 2008.

I'm very excited about these upcoming shows with Eric. Blind Faith was a long time ago and we have both come a long way since then. It was a wonderful experience for me to play at Crossroads this summer and I'm really looking forward to exploring some more music together in February," said Winwood.

"I have wanted to play with Steve for a long time. I consider him a friend and a truly gifted musician. Our set at the Crossroads Festival this summer was a real treat, so I expect these shows will be good fun for us and for the fans," said Clapton.

Steve Winwood is currently signed to Columbia Records and will have a new album out in early 2008. Eric Clapton's current album Complete Clapton is available now on Reprise Records.

This will be incredible! Both are so talented and they made some great music together way back when. I wish I could go. Can you imagine the ticket price for this?

I think this is great news, but based on reviews of the Cream Reunion at MSG, I will avoid this like the plague.

sounds like this could be some pretty incredible shows. i am curious to see who else will round out the band.

however, i don't like this american express ticket deal. this is from clapton's site....."American Express has a long history of providing special access and meaningful experiences to Cardmembers. As part of this ongoing commitment, American Express has partnered with these shows to secure a special opportunity for Cardmembers to purchase their tickets to what promises to be three incredible shows prior to the general public on-sale."

....so.....if i don't have the card i might not be able to get tickets. bunk-soup!!!

Hmmm...no DTB gigs booked for February just yet...would be cool to see Derek in this band, though I'm not sure he fits.

I saw them together at the Crossroads festival in Chicago in July, and all I can say is New York is in for a treat. Is it just me or as the older MOST of these guys get (Bob Dylan comes to mind as ax exception) the better live they are...I'm totally serious. I've seen Clapton from front row at Royal Albert Hall in London to the upper 300s at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH, and EC really is G-D!!!! Anyone in NYC or near by, ur really missin out if you don't go!!!

Filo - Did the book mention the servers in the aisles at MSG for the Cream shows with plastic champagne flutes? It was a bit over the top, and you are correct, probably a huge mistake, but a lot of money was thrown at him. One thing you folks could also check out is the DVD that recently aired on PBS - Blind Faith, Live At Hyde Park 1969. Although not as crisp audibly and/or technically well filmed by today standards, all and all it is a great show.
