French dance-pop duo Daft Punk were confirmed to appear on last night's episode of
The Colbert Report right up until yesterday afternoon when MTV pulled the plug on
the visit. Colbert explained the situation, "Here’s the story: it’s a true story. We
booked click and clack over here about a month ago. But there was a problem. This network
is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV ... Apparently - and this is a deeply
guarded secret so don't tell anyone - Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on
the MTV Video Music Awards. Spoiler alert. Don’t tell anyone, because fun fact: no one
told me until two o'clock yesterday."
So Colbert made the most of the situation and welcomed a cavalcade of guests including
Matt Damon, Bryan Cranston, Jimmy Fallon and Jeff Bridges to dance to Daft Punk's hit
single - "Get Lucky." Robin Thicke also performed his smash hit "Blurred Lines."
