Thrill Jockey 15th Anniversary

Thrill Jockey Records will host their 15th anniversary celebration December 14 and 15 in Chicago at the Logan Square Auditorium.

The show will feature performances from nearly twenty of the bands whose unique voices make up the sound of Thrill Jockey fifteen years in. Guests will also get a free copy of Trey Told 'Em's Thrill Jockey mix CD.

The Lineup:
ADULT.
Fred Anderson Trio
Arbouretum
Brokeback
Califone
Bobby Conn
Angela Desveaux
Eleventh Dream Day
The Fiery Furnaces
Frequency
Pit er Pat
Archer Prewitt
School of Language
The Sea and Cake
Trans Am
Thalia Zedek
The Zincs
(We also guarantee some surprise guests!)

The When and Where: The shows will be Friday, December 14 and Saturday, December 15 at The Logan Square Auditorium (2539 N. Kedzie Avenue) in Thrill Jockey's hometown of Chicago, IL.

The doors open each night at 6:00 p.m. and music starts promptly at 7:00. Thrill Jockey has "redecorated" the Auditorium and promise this will not be like any Logan show you have ever seen before. There will be two stages!

Specific set times or dates will not be announced. Expect the unexpected!

The show will be the U.S. debut for School of Language, David Brewis of Field Music's new solo endeavor. School of Language's debut album will be released on Thrill Jockey in early February of 2008. The show will also be the Chicago debut of Thalia Zedek's new band, also set for a new album in early 2008. Bobby Conn is bringing the big band and Califone promises the full horn section.

Since many of these bands just completed their cover recordings for Plum, Thrill Jockey's 15th Anniversary 7" box set, we are assured of some special collaborations. Will Califone join The Sea and Cake in their performance of "Spider's House"? Will Arbouretum join forces with Angela Desveaux? We hope you join us to find out!

The Ticket: Weekend passes are 50 dollars, available from the Empty Bottle and Ticketweb.

The Party Favor: Everyone gets a copy of the Super Epic Thrill Jockey Mega Massive Mix by Trey Told 'Em - Gregg Gillis (Girl Talk) and Frank Musarra!

Thrill Jockey opened the vaults to these two mix masters and let them go to town, and they exceeded all expectations! They managed to fit every single Oval song into one track and also crafted a special Tortoise and Trans Am mega mix, and last but certainly not least is the has-to-be-heard super epic mix that manages to include almost every Thrill Jockey artist! It's 70 minutes of music in all!

Check out the Trans Am megamix here:

This CD is strictly limited and will be available only at the Thrill Jockey anniversary shows in London and Chicago. A very limited number of the CDs will be sold on the Thrill Jockey mail order site and by Trey Told 'Em.

Would have rated this a 5, but no tortoise, damn! It really surprises me that they are not on this line-up. I mean come on, they are probably the most recognizable name on the label, and this is going on in their hometown nontheless.

everything ive heard on thrill jockey is highly enjoyable. Yes, Tortoise is the captain of the ship and i am surprised to not see the name on the bill. nevertheless, even if they dont perform, many Tortoise members will be there as they revolve in some of the other lesser known bands on the bill. as they say "we also guarantee some surprise guests!" which Tortoise members at a Thrill Jockey Anniversary party is not really a surprise. I would be surprised if they werent in the house. But then again, Expect the Unexpected!

Don't get me wrong, this is going to be a great time regardless of tortoise being there or not, and I guess in hindsight; we are lucky to get this lineup. Defintely pumped to check out the Fiery Furnaces and Pit er Pat for the first time, got some of their albums but never seen them live.
