When Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' released their second single, "American Girl," in 1977 it landed with a thud. "American Girl" didn't even crack the Billboard Top 40 here in the States. Its lack of commercial success didn't stop "American Girl" from becoming the band's signature song and even scored a spot in Rolling Stones' "The 100 Greatest Guitar Songs Of All-Time."

Old Crow Medicine Show (OCMS) appreciate the awesomeness that is "American Girl" and have joined the ranks of bands like Pearl Jam, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and The Gaslight Anthem who have also covered the song. "American Girl" has made the setlist at a number of recent OCMS performances including last night's show at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
