SUPERGROUP THE M&Ms COVERED JIMMY CLIFF
CLASSIC AT NEW YORK CITY DEBUT
Back on Thursday a supergroup who goes by the name The M&Ms made their debut at (le)
poisson rouge in New York City. The band, which consists of Galactic drummer Stanton Moore and bassist
Rob Mercurio as
well as guitarist Papa Mali
and MMW keyboardist John Medeski, was brought together by Equifunk organizers for Thursday's
event as well as a slot at August's Equifunk Music Festival.
The quartet played a varied mix of covers that included a take on "The Harder They Come"
by reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. "The Harder They Come" has been covered by dozens of artists
over the years. For The M&M's version, the newly svelte and dreadlock-less Papa Mali
handles the vocals, while Medeski drives the song with an organ solo.
