Umphrey's McGee and moe. Swap Covers at Summer Camp

UMPHREY'S MCGEE COVERS REBUBULA
MOE. COVERS IN THE KITCHEN AT SUMMER CAMP

One of the first songs Umphrey's McGee regularly covered after forming on the campus of Notre Dame in 1998 was "Rebubula" by moe. "Rebubula" was a staple of UM's live sets through the middle of 1999, when it was shelved after a June 24, 1999 performance. Though Umphrey's stopped playing the moe. cover, it helped introduce the two bands as moe. welcomed UM guitarist Brendan Bayliss to sit in on "Rebubula" at the first Bonnaroo in 2002. A few years later Umphrey's became a co-headliner at the annual Summer Camp festival and the bands have shared the stage many times over the years. In fact, Bayliss Bayliss had high praise when asked about the moe. for a Relix Magazine feature, “I really can’t stress enough how instrumental moe. has been in my career. I’ve met a lot of musicians and there’s nobody like those guys when it comes to being down-to-earth people not caught up in the rock star bullshit. They’re content with what they’ve created and how they’ve done it, and they should be.”

At this year's installment of Summer Camp, which wraps up tonight at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL; moe. and Umphrey's paid tribute to each other by covering the other act's trademark song. Umphrey's played "Rebubula" for the first time in nearly 14 years as their encore on Friday, while moe. unveiled their version of "In The Kitchen" as their encore on Saturday. UM also welcomed Big Gigantic's Dominic Lalli on sax for "Bright Lights, Big City" on Friday and brought out longtime collaborators the Mad Dog's Filthy Little Secret Horns on a number of tunes last night, while moe. brought out Allie Kral of Cornmeal for "Plane Crash" on Saturday.

Another connection between the two bands is UM LD Jefferson Waful who spent years on the road in the same position with moe. before joining the Umphrey's organization in 2008.

A short fan-shot clip of Umphrey's covering "Rebubula" has surfaced:
