Israel's Rockfour: U.S. Tour

ISRAEL'S HOTTEST ROCK EXPORT, ROCKFOUR, ANNOUNCES U.S. TOUR
COOKING VINYL RELEASES MEMORIES OF THE NEVER HAPPENED
IN THE U.S. ON OCTOBER 9

"Rockfour is a band that must travel miles to play a gig... but it's their audiences who end up taking the real journey--straight to musical nirvana." -Los Angeles Times

"Israel's answer to The Beatles." -NPR's "All Things Considered"

Rockfour
Rockfour will be arriving on U.S. shores, all the way from Israel, this October for select U.S. tour dates in support of their upcoming release, Memories of the Never Happened, out on Cooking Vinyl on October 9. Kicking of with a slew of west coasts and ensuing east coast dates, Rockfour will further secure their spot as Israel's hottest rock export, charming U.S. listeners with earnest lyrics and an intoxicating psychedelic pop sound. Known for their incredible musicianship and live show, Rockfour have already shared the international stage with everyone from Blonde Redhead and Dave Matthews Band to Blondie and the B-52's. In a recent review, Amazon.com praised their newest release, "...the nomadic melodies and gifted lyricism are apt to reel you in, affirming Rockfour's rise to international acclaim and pop-starring Tel Aviv on the music map."

Rockfour's guitar and vocal harmonies bring Pink Floyd, The Beatles and even The Beach Boys to mind, along with the sounds of their contemporaries like Wilco, the Flaming Lips, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Secret Machines.

Rockfour - Baruch Ben-Yitzhak (vocals/guitar), Marc Lazare (bass/vocals) Issar Tennenbaum (drums/percussion/vocals) and new addition Jacob Gani (keyboards) - hail from Holon, a suburb of Tel Aviv, where much of the Israeli pop/rock scene was born. Rockfour, perhaps surprisingly, doesn't write about politics, bombs, or fanatics. The band's unique sound and perspective may be affected by coming from a tumultuous homeland, but the message is about escape into pure musical experience. So what happens when a bomb goes off while lead lyricist Marc is writing a love song? "Suddenly my happy little song might have a bit of sadness, but this is not something I consciously think about, we want this music to be like our album cover art, protective and beautiful."

Although not religious, for the men of Rockfour spirituality and life are intertwined. "In Israel around every corner is a synagogue," explains Issar, "and the whole band keeps kosher and avoids playing shows on the Jewish holidays even when touring the U.S." Their life-long spirituality and strong connection to Israel gives an air of both melancholy and solace to The Memories of the Never Happened.

They have a track on the new Paste sampler and it's pretty solid, melodic, pop. There's definitely a serious Beach Boys streak in that particular song.
