^^^Wow thanks for contributing so positively to the thread. That input really is the kind of thing that moves this community forward, good to see we are all on the same level and working together.

Seriously, do you(sadly like many others) just completely ignore EVERYTHING about the kind of community that is trying to be created here??

as for 4 nights sts9 i will probably make it to 1 or 2 if i can't make it to the northeast for tDB

SCIfan how about yyou dont come if your gonna be such a negative stereotyping judgemental prick. I love STS9 and WSP and will be at the Tabby once again to bring in the new year. Its people like you that will ruin the vibe at the tabby not someone that loves music and wants to catch an extra night with another band.

scifan you need to keep quiet. STS9 and WSP have shared their home turfs in Atlanta for the past 3 years together and the fans enjoy eachothers company partyin in hotels and on the streets. I agree with whoknowswhy. I hope people like Scifan don't ruin the vibe and connections that very little of us have experienced at the tabby. Who else thinks Scifan should stay at home and cry about cheese rather than go to ATL???? I DO

Looks like a helluva time. I'll be in Chitown for UM, but if NYE is anything like it was on the STS9 dvd, it should be the shit. That LED screen they had on the dvd was one of the most amazing concert visuals I have ever seen. Have fun to all those who are going!

I think scifan06 went to a Panic show and, being so used to SCI, had never actually seen a band with an electric guitar player. He must have had his face and brain melted by Jimmy Herring, and just was unable to handle the intensity of it all.

wow, whats with the hostility....i am sure both shows will be great, and of course i will be at the 4 nights of tribe, but people need to respect what people enjoy listening to and stop bashing each others fan base, i have been to many shows and have found s9 to have the best and the kindest fanbase with AMAZING vibes (whoever was at regen would know what i am talkin about) who respect other peoples point of view. both wsp and s9 share ATL for new years and i will show nothing but welcoming and positive vibes to the wsp fans (as long as they do the same with me) and we will share a great new years together! keep it positive people!!! isnt that what the s9 fanbase is all about!!!

i understand what some are saying though, few years back these kids behind me were hating on sector during absolute jam saying "atleast we dont have to hear this the next 2 nights" i wanted to turn around and say then get the f*ck out, the shows sell out every year and if you dont like it there are kids outside that would! i just relocated and kept dancing!!!!

Keep it positive? Im with tourmaniac here. Ive been listening to the tribe for a long time and seeing them too and I dont see the scene as a big happy dance party. Its more about the whangstas (white gangstas), trying to impress, who's got the best drugs, and who's "the headiest bro". But I feel the scene in general has deteriorated. I could see it on Phish tour in '99 when the little teeny whangstas first started appearing on the lot. The whole scene changed. It became cool to sell people bad drugs, act like a fool ("this lot is mine bitch"- true qoute from Camden, and not be good family. More like the Manson family!

cuttyfives is an idiot. Umphrey's mcgee is an amazing band that will melt faces and throw an unbelievable show on NYE in chi. I know i'll be at all 3 nights! as for STS9 and WSP I respect both bands greatly, they have both influenced the jam scene in there own ways and both have a great kind fanbase, and both bands are very talented in there own way and both of them know how to keep a crowd moving and dancing, now if a band doesn't have that then you can argue that the band is lousy just because you don't like the band it doesn't make the band a shitty band. as for the "wu-tang hippies" it's a different time and age, as the years progress so does music. rap music obviously influenced these kids so they dress like they're from the streets of compton, if they bother you so much then ignore them, don't buy there bunk drugs, if you're smart you'll know who has that good shit!

I wish I could make it down for this but it's doubtful. At least I'll get to see 'em on their mid-Atlantic run (Baltimore anyone?). As for the scene bashing thats a little strange. But that is what Jambase is all about, spewing opinions as facts on an internet message board just to piss other people off because you disagree with their taste in music. Hate is cool, or at least thats what I have gathered from the last few months of Jambase posts... Anyways, as for the STS9 scene, I have always found it very welcoming and positive. Perhaps the lot scene is sketchy, but since when was buying drugs in a parking lot not sketchy? So please lets do keep it positive, to all the sts9 fans stay positive, all you WSP SCI and Umph fans keep it positive... can't we all just keep it fucking positive to better the WHOLE scene?

cutty--I agree about Umphreys 100%....They seem to sound very sterile, lacking much soul, and their jams never seem to get in a groove. As soon as they start to sound good, they promptly change directions of the music. I personally wouldn't consider them a Jam band, and they are definitely not psychedelic. Their Bass player is average at best, and it seems that there are bands out there doing more with 3 musicians than UM can do with 6. If I want to see a tight prog rock show with great musicians, I'll go see Rush. Neil Peart has more talent than the entire band of UM combined.

I'd also like to add that I've really tried hard to give UM a fair chance. I've seen them 7-8 times in hopes that eventually, I'll get into it, but it just hasn't happened. 2 of the shows I left just after set break and the last show was up at Copper Mountain where they didn't really start to sound decent until the guitar player from TDB came out and started shredding.

Marcsmall - I totally know what you mean...That's exactly how I feel about Umphrey's McGee. Don't mind Gmoo...he just likes to act all holier-than-thou. He thinks he's spreading positive vibes but usually the vibes he puts out are worse than what he's complaining about (i.e. He called you "pathetic.") I didn't see you calling anyone names. Nice analogy by the way.

SOLD!!! Iwas already gonna be at the phillips for panic but two more days of the tribe could make this NYE epic, too bad the vast majority of these comments arent related to how stoked we as a community should be for the opportunityto CHOOSE BETWEEN THESE TWO STELLAR ACTS IN ATLANTA im a fanatical panic fan so I choose the panic NYE but I also love me some dancin to the tribes beats so this truly is the best of both worlds

oh by the way I probably will be drunk at the STS9 show (at least one of the nights) Is that illegal or something, should I consult an electronica guru to prescribe my medicine, or would a sixer of PBR offend too many people at the tribe show?

if by good music you mean umphreys you are mistaken. like i said, i wasted 3 nights in row seein their nye run a few years back. in any case, it all comes down to opinions, but my friends and I were very let down by their nye performance. I have also seen umph 2 times in columbia mo, 2 times in lawrence ks, 2 times in NYC, and 5 times in Chi...they have been declining for some time, IMO, and I have vowed never to see them again after their weak ass showing in Central Park last summer...kanye is not crap, this 1 album will be more popular and sell to more people than umph in their entire careers. "people talkin shit but when shit hits then fan, everything Im not may be everything I am", off the track w/ Dj Premiere a far more proflic and influential artist then umph will ever be...have a nice labor day. peace

easy for me, I Like all the bands you people fight over.

It took me three to four shows before UMPH pleased my ears. The best show was this summer at masquerade music park with TDB.

I have been seeing panic since 1989, I am a bit tired of them, but I do love them.

I saw sts9 in the early 90's for five bucks, but sometimes, you dont know what you will get at a show, chanting and ambient space, or funk rock electronica. Well, I take my chances, my last sts9 show knoxville 2007 was fantastic, Hunter actually played some hendrix licks that night. It was a cool show, mixed of funk, rock and electronic, nice blend fellas.

I love music =)

All the people who just constantly rip on this or that band do it for that "special feeling" they get from telling something unnecessary, usually unfounded and often hurtful to a diehard fan. This is not just an internet thing but these people's lives in general revolve around these kinds of things. Something they dislike, hate, are jealous of... or for whatever reason, they choose to portray their hate and dismay in ways that knowingly gets people upset. Though these people do exist in all walks of life, but if you notice this particular brand of harshness seams to be an internet message board phenom. Not once has anyone come up to me or anyone I know and said some of the stuff I read on here. The hater-ade drinking mother’s basement dwelling recluse who you always hear in line, or the uber brah behind you talking so much smack about this or that band that doesn’t fit their taste. So listen to something else. It’s been said a million times before but it’s just something that exists in humanity.

Heated debate about music with people is possible while showing much respect for something that obviously brings joy and genuine love to someone’s life.

I wish I could find a clean and constructive msg board! Or maybe if jambase had mods to help curb the clutter….
