WEEN SIGNS WITH ROUNDER RECORDS, READIES NEW ALBUM AND TOUR
LA CUCARACHA, THEIR FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN FOUR YEARS
DUE OCTOBER 23
Ween |
With genre-defining releases in the fields of pop, country, bluegrass, folk, reggae, blues, and jazz, Rounder Records is one of America's most eclectic music labels. In its 20+ year history, Ween has deconstructed each and every one of those genres (and then some!), all the while displaying a preternatural gift for melody and genius, spit-take lyrics. On October 23, the twain shall meet when Rounder releases La Cucaracha, Ween's first studio album in over four years.
Commenting on the Rounder signing, Dean Ween enthused "I always wanted to be on the same label that put out all those early George Thorogood records and now I am!"
La Cucaracha is Ween's ninth studio album and features thirteen new, original songs. It was produced by long-time collaborator Andrew Weiss, and recorded, according to Dean, "in a moldy 200 year-old farmhouse in our hometown of New Hope, PA."
From the mold Ween has crafted its most ambitiously all-over-the-map release since the 1994 classic Chocolate and Cheese. Witness the redneck scat boogie of "Learning to Love"; the blistering porn rock throw-down "With My Own Bare Hands"; the emo-bashing "Shamemaker" and the dream-weaving "Spirit Walker"; the epic 10+ minute Latin prog of "Woman and Man" and the exquisitely groovy "Your Party," the best song Gerry Rafferty never wrote, featuring the smooth sounds of saxophonist David Sanborn. Rolling Stone observed that Ween's voracious musical appetite is "both anachronistic and cunningly contemporary," and that's never been more true than on La Cucaracha.
Ween will embark on their most extensive tour in years in support of La Cucaracha. Stay tuned for a full list of dates.

Now a little note from Gene and Dean about the new album "La Cucaracha"
Yes, the new Ween album has a name, La Cucaracha. The album kicks ass, I'm not really sure what else to say about it other than I really can't wait for it's release. There's not a wasted minute of music on there. We wrote and recorded a ton of material before we whittled it down to it's present state. We recorded the album to two inch 24 track tape and it sounds amazing. As always, it was produced and mixed by Andrew Weiss. It's due to be released in late September and we have already booked our American tour, which runs from mid-October until X-mas break. It will be our first full scale tour since Quebec was released. We will be playing pretty much every major city in the U.S. I'm not so sure yet about Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan but it looks like we'll get there next year. I really, I mean really can't wait for you guys to hear it. I think you're gonna be floored.
