BAY AREA INTO MAY

One might wonder what good live music can be heard in the Bay Area with seemingly every band in the country in New Orleans for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. There are still plenty of great shows you can catch in the Bay Area!

Friday | April 27th
Little Feat, one of the all-time great bands, will be at Palookaville with Taos Hum opening. Poncho Sanchez and Vivendo de Pao are at the Fillmore. St. Germain is at Bimbo's and will play again on Saturday and Monday. At Ashkenaz in Berkeley Fact or Fiction with Martin Fierro with opening act, Shelley Doty X-tet, play a Musicians For Medical Marijuana benefit. Boomshanka and Tea Leaf Green will rip it up at the Tongue & Groove. Netwerk: Electric is at the Boom Boom Room (don't pay attention to the Chronicle which shows Alan Hertz and Friends). Amy Ray and the Butchies are at Slim's (also on Saturday). Bitches Brew is at the Elbo Room. J. Mascis and the Fog are at the Great American Music Hall and will play at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz on Saturday. The Chazz Cats are at Foley's and later in the evening John Frusciante will play solo. Red Meat and the Darling Clementines will be at the Bottom of the Hill. Leroy, Ten Pound Brown and Chrome Johnson will play the Lost City 23 Club in Brisbane (South SF). !Tang and Martin Franco and Shango Mantra are at Blakes in Berkeley. Sexfresh is at the Jupiter. Roy Rogers and Norton Buffalo are at the Palms in Davis and also play Freight & Salvage on Saturday.

Saturday | April 28th
Prince will funk it up at the Oakland Arena. The Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center will host the California Music Awards featuring Little Feat, Victoria Williams, Sammy Hagar and Tom Morello, Elvin Bishop, Chuck Prophet and more. Zigaboo Modeliste and the New Ahhkesstra will be at Palookaville with the Free Radicals. Uncle Harlen's Band is at the Last Day Saloon with Rockwell Church. The B-Side Players are at the Elbo Room. Pato Banton and Tippa Irie are at the Justice League. Noe Valley Ministry has the Tin Hat Trio and Orchestra. Tea Leaf Green is at the Old Western Saloon in Pt. Reyes Station. The Terrace in Soquel has Strungover!

Sunday | April 29th
Regina Carter will be at the Carraige House Theater at Villa Montalvo. Iggy Pop is at the Fillmore. Kate & Anna McGarrigle will be at the Great American Music Hall with Martha Wainwright. Martin Fierro plays the Fourth Street Tavern at 6 pm followed by Groundation. Blakes in Berkeley has Ten Pound Brown and Goodbye Flowers. Don't forget, there could still be matinee (2 pm) tickets for Arturo Sandoval at Yoshi's. Bring your child(ren)!

Monday | April 30th
The amazing Sharon Shannon and her hot band are at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. Roy Hargrove Quintet plays Bruno's Monday and Tuesday. Jon Hammond & Friends are at the Boom Boom Room. Sphere with Kenny Barron, Buster Williams, Ben Riley and Gary Bartz are at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz. Fatboy Slim and other DJs play a sold out show at the Fillmore.

Tuesday | May 1st
Scott Amendola Band and the Noe Venable Trio are at Cafe du Nord. At 8 pm before Roy Hargrove, Beth Custer y Dona Luz 30 Besos are at Bruno's. Felonious and the Jethro Jeremiah Band are at the Last Day Saloon. DivaBands at the Utah will feature Anna Kristina, Velvet Jones and Pi. The Great American Music Hall has Jerry Jeff Walker and the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash.
