THE JESUS & MARY CHAIN RETURN FOR FALL DATES
A RETURN TO THE STUDIO FOR REUNITED BAND IS ALSO CONFIRMED
The Jesus & Mary Chain |
In the five months since The Jesus & Mary Chain have been reunited, the band has played over a dozen dates and today announces a handful of new U.S. dates this fall. The band also confirms that they will be returning to the studio for the first time in over nine years to begin work on a new album.
After playing their last gig in 1998 and breaking up in 1999, the band reunited this spring for a handful of high-profile club and festival dates in the U.S. and Europe which began with a triumphant main stage performance in front of an estimated 10,000 fans at Coachella. In their only U.S. interview to date, brothers Jim and William Reid sat down with Rolling Stone magazine the day after that performance and hinted at a possible return to the studio, which is now confirmed.
In addition to Jim and William Reid, The Jesus & Mary Chain lineup includes Phil King on bass, Mark Crozer on guitar, and Loz Colbert on drums.

It's the "return" of The Jesus & Mary Chain at the Main Stage on opening night that encapsulates how the confluence of time, place and atmospheric conditions can summon the near-mystic power of gargantuan music circuses. In a selection of vintage, Velvets-y drones including "Some Candy Talking," "Reverence," and "Sidewalking," plus an attractive new thumper called "All Things Must Pass," they benefit from a superbly taut and pulsating sound mix that places correct focus on the considerable skills of former Lush bassist Phil King and ex-Ride tubwhacker Loz Colbert, who provide the focus in support of William's artfully wah'd and ring-modulated screech, buzz, whirr and howl. -MOJO
