these guys I sooooooooo hyped up. Even Trey is hyping these cats up. I just don't get it. I can't really say that they suck, but they just don't move me much. Kinda like Umphrey's McGee.

The most overrated band since My Morning Jacket. Over hyped is right!

Arcade Fire put on one of the most dynamic and interesting live shows out there. Go see them if you haven't, even if the album doesn't hit you their live show is one of the best in the world right now (up there with My Morning Jacket's!)

Amen KeithRichards, Arcade Fire and MMJ (along with Mars Volta) are consistently the best shows of the year... I only wish the Fire were not playing opposite the White Stripes in SF... gotta go see Jackie White! (if only b/c i saw Arcade Fire a couple months ago, and it was off the charts!)

j-bizzle – Too right. I caught one night of the recent run at Chicago Theater and it was jaw dropping. Their techs are awesome to make so many instruments sound so clear and well defined. You would think with all that going on, the sound would be muddy – it ain’t!!! Arcade Fire is about the most exciting live band I have ever seen and I have heard lots about LCD. I would love to see them together. Still thinking of heading to Red Rocks to catch them.
McCree/Bangs Ghost/Kellerhead/Nom-du-jour – Why don’t you do us all a solid and try to restrain yourself to posting when you have something positive to contribute? When you need to vent anger (face it – we all do), then wise us up and elaborate. Please indulge my curiosity – Why do you think they are over rated??? To vamp on with “They suck” and “Vegoose sucks” may be fun for you, but is getting tedious for the rest of us. Hopefully you can reply with a thought through and semi-well-articulated response without getting all negative on my request.

First Bonnaroo, then Vegoose, and now this site. Superfly Productions is really helbent on turning the once great jam scene into SPIN Magazine. They make Clear Channel seem almost appealing. At least by the underwelming number of posts on this "story" it shows that many of the patrons of our great scene arent falling for the attempted brainwashing. At least we still have Relix Magazine, High Sierra Music Festival, Honest Tune Magazine, and 10K Lakes to take shelter from this storm of mediocre, flash in the pan, overhyped slop.

@ Mother Mccree - have you EVER made a positive post on JamBase?

i've seen both of these bands recently and both have made the list for best shows i've been to. the fact that they're touring together...let me just say, if you can catch one of these shows, do it.

i do however, like Les claypool's music and antibalas.

No it isnt sarcasm. Drive By Truckers, Jason Isbell, Patterson Hood, White Stripes, Raconteurs are all great. I've been listeing to them all for years.

So just to be clear, White Stripes, Winehouse and Damian Rice are okay and should be on JamBase but not Arcade Fire and MMJ? And ACL is okay, but not Vegoose or Bonnaroo... You could be putting me on, sometimes sarcasm doesn't work in print, but i'm having a hard time figuring out what is okay for JamBase and what is not?

I don't seem to get these guys (or MMJ for that matter). It seems to me to be just average indie rock with a string section (and in some cases, above average lyrical content). Could someone take a glance at the bands on my profile recommend some tracks? It took me a while to "get" the appeal of TV on the Radio too, so please, try to enlighten me.

I've been looking at a couple of articles here in the past five minutes, and in those five minutes, I've been annoyed by you, MotherMcgree, on many different boards. Why is it necessary that you act so agressive and negatively, McGree? No one person is alike, and you should be educated enough to know that by your posts, you are not convincing anyone that you have a point. What, in particular is it that you don't like about Arcade Fire or MMJ? You seem like such an idiot to enjoy spewing shit about bands without explaining yourself. I would love to think the world has not bred the chest-thumping, ignorant, self-rightousness you so eagerly display. For me, Arcade Fire and MMJ have made albums are evocative and unified in their entirety as opposed to in pieces. I can't think of many bands that have done that, a couple of which would be Radiohead and Pink Floyd.

As for “the once great jam scene”, it’s greatest nemesis is itself. Look at the bands, look at the material and look at how little those bands evolved. I think that is why sites like JamBase and festivals like Bonaroo and Vegoose are diversifying. You may not like it, but they have bills to pay and families to feed. Arcade Fire, LCD and the such are not that big of a stretch from the likes of Phish or MMW.

Kayceman – I think that you are nailing what works (at least for me). When I got into jam music around 89, it was because of the eclecticism of the music. At first it was the Dead who had a long career that covered many different genres. At that time, Phish, Traveler, Spin Doctors, Leftover Salmon and Panic were just striking out. Fans of these bands were also fans of jazz, bluegrass, prog-rock, punk rock…Hell, anything “GOOD”!
I agree with McCree. It is a “once great scene”. Many bands out there are broken up or just stale. Many couldn’t write a song to save their life, but they can noodle on with a jam that goes exactly nowhere for 30 minutes. That really isn’t interesting unless you have a head full of mushrooms (at least interesting to someone who is 38 and has seen a bunch of bands noodle all night long). Buzzed or not, that stuff isn’t interesting anymore because it is such well trodden ground.
So, maybe the Jam in JamBase isn’t so much about Jam Bands, but bands that JAM? I say LCD, Arcade Fire, Wilco, Flaming Lips, Shins and the like are bands that JAM and are ones who you will stay on top of in the future.
BTW – please never cover Amy Weinhouse. Not to say that she is a crappy version of Carla Thomas produced by Phil Spector, but more of a mediocre version of Brittany meets Dusty Springfield.

Tubaman3 – As for Arcade Fire, if you can catch them at a festival – do so! If not, give Funeral 2 or 3 listens. If you dig BSS and Sufjan, it will get to you. Not right off, but did Illinois hit you in the first listen? The new Kevin Drew (BSS) sounds more like Arcade Fire meets Starbucks-Feist than BSS.
j-bizzle turned me onto Del Tha Funkee Homosapien (also Hieroglyphic). You’ll dig him if you dig Blackalicious and De La (at least I did). Also, if you like Antibalasa, try out Fela Kuti. The albums He Miss Roads and Expensive Shit are available on a single CD.

MotherMcCree/Kellerhead/etc./etc./etc. - We get it. You don't like My Morning Jacket. Do you really need to express that after every article that is posted on this site, even when the article isn't about them? Give it a rest. Can't wait for Arcade Fire at Red Rocks.

tubaman3 - I wasn't a big fan of Arcade Fire's Funeral until after a few listens, then it was severely addicting. Same goes for Neon Bible. For me, they were both growers that took a while to reveal themselves. It is really hard to pick favorites, but try maybe Wake Up, Neighborhood #3 (Power Out), or Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) off of Funeral. I like Ocean of Noise, No Cars Go, and My Body Is A Cage off of Neon Bible. As far as MMJ, try watching the Okonokos DVD, I know you can get it on Netflix if you have that. That usually converts people. In my opinion, two of the best bands around right now.

Thanks for the recommendations Kirkbrew and Mcarrell, I hope I can get into this stuff. If I gave up on bands after the first few listens, my favorite bands list would be MUCH smaller!

Very well said Kirkbrew - when I got into bands like God Street Wine, Percy Hill and Phish in the early 90s it was about GOOD Music, all inclusive. Labels suck.
