I agree with ers7 that it was fantastic and a lot of people I talked to at the show mentioned the energy level was so high. I took a walk with some friends on saturday morning and we saw Keith coming out of his airstream trailer to join his family sitting around the breakfast table and Billy was sitting at a picnic table playing and singing.Bob Horning and the folks at Peak and the all the people there made it a event I will remember for ever.

This is one of the only times I can say that these pictures actually did the event justice. The energy level at Horning's was unsurpassable. Everyone there was ready to throw down and have one hell of a party. What's not to love: Peacocks roaming the property, some of the most positive people in the world, amazing themed camps complete with amazing art and light instalations, and of course, three days of CHEESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite part was watching all of the Hoopers with LED lights (Let's just say a smile never left my face all weekend). Much Love to Bob Horning, Peak Experience, and Of course, CHEESE, for making this weekend one to remember. Everyone have fun and be safe at Zoe and Red Rocks!!!!!!!!!

This was my fourth Hornings, and hands down the best. Energy was through the roof all weekend long. Cheese might have been a little, er...emotional/distracted/sad - their energy wasn't as positive as its been in the past at Hornings...But thats to be understood. Definitely sensed some drama between Kang and Billy both onstage and backstage...Unfortunate. Billy seemed saltier than normal. Anyway, their lack of umph was more than made up for by the energy brought by Peak Experience and the incredible people who came to throw down this year. I've never seen more camps decked out, more poeple laughing, dancing and freaking at Hornings before. Whether it was impromptu silliness like Hook a Wook and Human Bowling (sha-na-na-na-na!), or the impressive organized camps like the temple and the cube-a-tron, all of it was 100% over the top spectacular. I only wish Saturday night could have been 12 hours longer so I could see it all. Every single person brought their A game, a costume, tons of flair and a huge smile, and it was apparent. The Saturday night ritual set set a new bar for what can be done by a group of creative individuals when they put their minds to it. And the approximately 20,000 glowsticks were overwhelming. What an awesome experience. What an awesome community. What an awesome place. Hornings is a treasure that eclipses every single other venue I've seen in the US, and I've seen damn near all of 'em. You owe it to yourself to check it out! Long live Hornings!

Every year I go to Horning's, it's the best thing ever. So many things this weekend were so great, the people, the landscape, the Cheese...

I almost booed on Sunday during the Way Back Home encore, because I didn't want to go home dammit. I'm going to miss this, and looking forward to this, immensely. There's still string summit, but somehow it just isn't the same.

BTW, too bad on the lack of ALO pictures, they tore it up. Both Billy and Scott Law playing with them was worth a picture or two. Ahh well, awesome shots you got anyway, very few of my night shots came out.

I have been to Hornings every year cheese has been there, and each one has been a completely life lifting experience. Hornings is the best venue I have ever been to out of all the places I've seen shows, US Canada Europe.....Theres no place like it. Now the show, what can I say, cheese was on it!!!!!Billy was rippin', loved it when he was on the ground throwin down w/ the feedback, Kyle shootin lasers across the ampitheater, Kang had smoke comin off his mando, Keith's daughter loved her Dads playin as much as we did (joyful sound), and Travis playin bass???? wow, don't forget the biggest smiles in the band JASON ROCKS!!! I will forever be grateful for the magical times cheese has given me, thank you Cheese, Bob Horning, Peak Experience and all my friends that were there along with me. One more thanks to all the late night DJs, I'm still sore from dancin my asss off till sunrise everyday!!! Peace and Love to all!!!!!!!!

If a guy named Kaleb who was camped right across from the happy brigade happens to read this, shoot me a private message. I was supposed to go to your funky disco party that Friday, but couldn't find the camp in the darkness.

SCI @ Hornings Hideout Review
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I sent this email to my buddy last night around 2 am when I was still all giddy from the show and my mind was still moving too fast. excuse the excited rambling...I couldn't contain myself. Funny thing is, I'm not even a cheese fan anymore; don't think I've seen them since '01, but while I was sitting at the beer fest in portland, I decided I'd be a fool not to go try to find a ticket. I didn't find a ticket, and I had to jump the fence--Karma be damned! Quite simply, this was the coolest show I've ever seen. (not necessarily the best music, as you can see I talk more about the scene than the music.) Read on for my review:

holy motherf'ing shit, I had to sit in the woods for 2+ hours and wait till dark to climb a fence, but I was able to get into Hornings Hideout last night to see Cheese play....and it was the most unbelievable thing you could imagine. I got in around 9pm, 30 mins before 2nd set started and was able to wander around a little bit--the place is in the coastal mountains in the middle of a forest, and the stage is in this little gulch right next to a lake. there was a full moon, no clouds, and the nicest pacific breeze possible. huge doug firs are everywhere, you're basicly in the middle of woods. there are dirt paths thru the woods with venors EVERYWHERE....food, clothes, art, heady hippie cystals, all that shit. basicly the perfect setting for a concert.

anyhow, the place was packed, but the floor down at the bottom in front of the stage was completly cleared. then the band came on and started playing this really trippy jam while about 30 girls dressed in flowing gowns came out and started doing a tribal dance on the floor. next thing you know, there are people coming out with flaming spears and dancing around and handing those off to the girls....then people with flaming bows are dancing, and then they start lighting the ground on fire, its in the shape of this crazy pentagram (almost) and there are fire dancers everywhere, throwing flaming balls, sticks, all sorts of crazy shit. this goes on about 10 minutes, and the crowd is going crazy and then in the middle of that, these guys start building a huge pyramid out of these iron pipes and then light that on fire! huge fire, like 20 or 30 feet high! and everybody's still down there dancing around it and the music is going crazy. so right in the peak of that these other folks start coming out from behind the stage with these iron bars that are formed to make the shape of a chinese parade dragon--but its all made of fire so you see a fire mouth, fire eyes, and fire whiskers...then they open the mouth and shoot these huge balls of fire out of its mouth--you can't even imagine! that goes on for a while until they start the fireworks show---everywhere! the fire dancers all have fireworks attached to their spears, fireworks out of the pyramid, out of the stage, everywhere! its nothing but smoke, lights, and loud cheese. really crazy. but not over yet.

so its all smoky and they tune the music down to a slower tempo, real jazzy/trance-style. all the fire dancers leave the stage, and these girls come out that are twirling 40 or 50 glowing balls all around themselves. its so dark you can't see the girls at all, all you can see are these balls circling around in the dark, getting bigger and smaller. it looked like 4 or 5 atoms out there on the stage. they have more and more glow-in the dark things come out, and people dressed in crazy glowing alien costumes come out, and then these glow in the dark UFOs start coming down out of the trees and floating around the stage, and these HUGE blimps that look like old underwater mines with lights on them come out from behind the stage and float around in the smoke. the place is packed with glow-in the dark people and things, all going crazy, with the crowd completely into it, and then the band breaks into Round the Wheel, and open the gates to the crowd so everybody runs onto the floor, and the band has machines set up in the crowd that is just continuously shooting thousands of glow sticks into the crowd. I couldn't beleve my eyes! it was nuts. I can't even do it justice! so I found a link to the show they did in '05--it looks like they did the fire dancing to a lesser degree then. its pretty cool--you can see what the first part was all about. wish you were there!

good job on comments guys.. u paint an accurate picture of this event. its terrible but my last show was a sleeper. I have my memories of the good times though.
Funny too, I see positive postings here from people that BASH the crap out of some other bands. coughparticle.
Its odd, really, to show love here, but be negative about other groups that sincerely are not bad at all!!! whatever, I have decided we are all freaking NUTZ. peace..

I am sooo glad their were not lots of folks jumping the fences at Hornings. It went sooooo friggin smooth all weekend, and I think they even went past their curfew on Sunday! Even the few cops that were there just didnt seem to be hassling anyone. I know Bob Horning posted on PT that he thinks it was the biggest success at Hornings ever.

Personally - I FREEKIN LOVED THESE SHOWS and now I am jonesin for more..... who's got my heady plane ticket to Denver??

Nice photos! It was such an amazing weekend, really, really & truley phenomenal. Great review Willie, although I disagree & thought the music was top notch too. All 3 shows are already up on archive.org, for anyone who wants to stream/download them. Oh, and the design on the ground during the fire show had 6 sides & 2 interlocked triangles, so it wasn't a pentagram (which has 5 sides).

I'll chime in with BIG thanks to SCI, Peak & the Horning's family, but add kudos to Madison House as well, since they produced the event & made it all possible.
