watch out for narcs in B'ham also. While it is not as bad as Oak Mountain was toward the end of Panic's time there, it has the potential to get that way. As good as WP rips it in B'ham historically, the fans also get ripped by the cops, so be careful and smart. That being said, will be in B'ham, Memphis, and Macon, and possibly Nashville; the Ryman is such a cool little venue.

overall Tue 7/31/2007 12:03PM
+4 Votes Thumbs down! Thumbs up!

overall

Two things...

Asheville will definitely be great, but JoeyTheFoot is right. A headline-grabbing city councilman has drug dogs sniffing at all rock/jam shows at the Civic Center now. They even had lobby-based assault rifle cops and metal detectors at a rap show this past weekend.

35 officers were assigned to posts inside and immediately outside the Civic Center for Panic this past spring. The lot has been shut down too, so if you're looking to score some travel cash by selling merch, forget about it.

Result: Stick to beer inside the venue, and be prepared to lose your stuff if you try to sell merch within two blocks.

The other thing...what's up with the under-informed posters who are ragging about Chicago being skipped? If they bothered to do even the smallest amount of research, they'd understand that all decent sized acts (who routinely sell out over 80% of large PACs and sheds) intentionally avoid oversaturation in their touring schedule. That's the only way to make sure their sales numbers stay up.

But others on this board obviously know what's up, as they've pointed out that alternate/nearby cities have been selected for several of the towns played either during the spring or summer. For example, Charlotte fans should have no issue going to an Asheville show, just as true fans in Chicago should have no issue with heading up to Milwaukee.

All in all, this schedule looks sweet to me. REALLY looking forward to Asheville.

overall is exactly right, this right winged prick of a city councilman in Asheville is ruining for everyone. For one thing, this all started back in the RatDog show back in March. Apparently this jackass walked in and didn't like what he "smelled", and went to the city manager and sent him an email that stated "The Thomas Wolfe Auditorium smelled like an Amsterdamn Hash den". #1 how does this jackass know what that smells like? #2 if they start cracking down in Asheville, what the hell is the world coming to. I've never had a problem at a show in Asheville until this past April. Absolutely ridiculous. I agree though, if Charlotte fans are bitching about Asheville get over it, its not that far of a drive. Regardless of the police presence in good ole Asheville I'll be damned if I'm missing Panic on Halloween just an hour up the mountain! See you folks there and be safe.

Somehow I think the last show cost councilman Mumpower his support for his war on drugs/jambands. The beat cops looked bored and disinterested.
