These guys put on a great show!

I like these dudes a lot and I am very excited about them teaming up with AOD for what should be a good stretch (and provide some cool regional contrast as well). But can they please just go back to being plain, old MOFRO again? This whole JJ Grey and Mofro thing ain't working.

The Lee Boys are great. And St. Augustine has some great sites to see, especially all the war museums.

Does anyone know what happened with Mofro and the moe. down? They were on early lists of this year's moe. down artists lists, but then sort of dropped off with no explanation. I wonder if they dropped out/got kicked out of moe. down and then decided to do this, or if they pulled out of moe. down in order to do this.

the lee boys are pretty good, but to be honest after seeing them, they sound like a cheap, watered down Robert Randolph.
I like them ok, sure. their pedal steel guy is not anywhere close to RR. tho. I enjoyed the set I saw at riverbend, but it did not generate any excitement really.

This sounds interesting. Caught Lee Boys last year at Wanee and thought they sounded great. The energy didn't rise until Luther Dickinson came out to trade licks with the steel player. Sounds like a fun day of music, cool they through Tony Joe White and Los Lobos in the mix

carphishhead, I totally agree. It's time for JJ to step down and realize his place as the singer and writer of the band, and not be a douche by putting himself before his fellow musicians. Reid Genauer eventually took his name out of assembly of dust after they got a following, why is Grey putting his IN!?!?

I think grey put his name in, because they switched record labels from fogshack records to alligator.
It was probably the label conflict that forced him to some-how alter the name of the band. ?? this is my speculation.
I have met JJ and he does not strike me as a pompous boob.

JJ's not pompous...he ate mac and cheese at my house a few years back in Chi Town...I don't really get what happened...but the same feeling of 2004 is definitely NOT there...way overproduced...saw the HOB show a few months back and was so disappointed...can't wait to see them get back to their roots at Wicker Park Fest this weekend in Chi. Hope it happenes since all the flam and flare won't be there on the outside stage.

I saw Mofro at Live Cafe in Philly promoting Country Ghetto. I met JJ, got an autograph and pic, but I asked him why this album says JJ Grey & Mofro. He told me he wrote every song and arranged the entire album, so the songs are more stories of JJ's life so they thought it was appropriate to title it as JJ Grey & Mofro. Whether they change it back to just Mofro, I don't know. But I like the original name best. Either way I love them!

Hey, don't sleep on the Legendary JC's. They are a GREAT soulful band out of Orlando. I describe them as a cross between CCR and James Brown. They got soul, and they supa bad!! Check 'em out, you will NOT be disappointed.

It's funny...the liner notes in their first CDs said "MOFRO is JJ Grey and Daryl Hance, accompanied by George Sluppick and whoever else was with them at the time." Now it's JJ Grey and MOFRO...does that mean JJ cloned himself and is playing in *and* with MOFRO?!?
Either way, this sounds like a good time. MOFRO, Los Lobos and the Legendary Joint Chiefs (aka JC's)...I'm down!
