CHARLIE LOUVIN TURNS 80

COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME LEGEND
CHARLIE LOUVIN CELEBRATES 80
WITH NEW DIGITAL EP, VIDEO AND BIRTHDAY WEEKEND EVENTS IN NASHVILLE

Charlie Louvin
Tompkins Square records is proud to announce that country music giant Charlie Louvin, who, alongside his late brother Ira, made history as the legendary country duo The Louvin Brothers, will celebrate his 80th birthday on July 7, 2007.

To celebrate the moment, several special events have been planned in Nashville the weekend of July 6-8. On July 6, Louvin will perform with special guests at The Mercy Lounge, 8 p.m. On July 7 at 1 p.m., he will host a CD signing and guest DJ slot at Grimey's Records. Also on the 7, he will perform on the Grand Ole Opry, of which he has been a member since 1955, followed by a Midnight Jamboree performance at the Texas Troubador Theater, and signing at the Ernest Tubb Record Shop. On July 8, festivities will continue at the Country Music Hall of Fame, where there will be a world premier screening of Louvin's new music video for "Ira," a moving tribute to his late brother, which appears on his new self-titled album. The video, directed by Pete Cummings, was shot live at a recent in--store performance at Shangri-La Records in Memphis, with additional footage shot in Louvin's hometown of Manchester, TN.

Also to mark the occasion, Louvin will release a digital-only EP on July 3 featuring six songs, including a new version of the Louvins classic "Cash on The Barrelhead," a new take on a fairly obscure Louvins tune, "Glad That I'm Not Him," the aforementioned "Ira," with Marty Stuart on mandolin, "Knoxville Girl" featuring Will Oldham, "Waiting On A Train" by Jimmie Rogers, featuring George Jones, and the lovely, unreleased, "Mama's Angels."

The Louvin Brothers are widely recognized as one of the greatest and most influential country music duos of all time. Their songs have been covered by a wide array of artists, including Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, The Byrds, Beck and The Raconteurs featuring Jack White, to name a few.

Louvin has kept an active schedule this year, touring the country in support of his new critically acclaimed self-titled album and sharing stages with Neko Case, Laura Cantrell, Ryan Adams and Cake. The new album features guest appearances by Elvis Costello, George Jones, Will Oldham, Jeff Tweedy and many others. Upcoming dates include festival stops at Bonnaroo and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, as well as a slate of other dates, including in-stores at select retail locations. The album has received 4 out of 5 stars in Mojo and Uncut, as well as winning reviews in Pitchfork, New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, Los Angeles Times and No Depression to name a few.
