HOLLYWOOD RECORDS ANNOUNCES AUGUST 7 RELEASE
FOR GRACE POTTER & THE NOCTURNALS' THIS IS SOMEWHERE
BAND CURRENTLY PREVIEWING SONGS ON TOUR

Grace Potter and The Nocturnals
LOS ANGELES, CA: Hollywood Records has announced an August 7 release date for THIS IS SOMEWHERE, the highly anticipated new album from critically acclaimed rock band Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. The album, the band's third and first for Hollywood, was co-produced by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals with former Whiskeytown guitarist Mike Daly and features the fiery lead single "Ah Mary."

Led by the 24-year-old Potter, whom Rolling Stone praised for singing "like a fighting-mad Bonnie Raitt," the Vermont-based quartet (rounded out by guitarist Scott Tournet, bassist Bryan Dondero and drummer Matt Burr) has spent the past few years building a diehard following on the strength of an electrifying live show and a sound that the Boston Globe described as "a weathered mix of bluesy roots rock that nods to Potter's heroes while establishing her own confessional songwriting quirks."

On previous self-released albums, Potter's extraordinarily expressive vocals drew comparisons to the likes of Janis Joplin, Lucinda Williams and Norah Jones, but with THIS IS SOMEWHERE, Grace, who Rolling Stone's David Fricke proclaimed is "poised for bigger things," steps out and firmly marks her own territory.

Grace Potter tour dates available HERE.

She certainly is both beautiful and talented. That being said, she is no Etta James. She is simply not in the same ballpark of the great blues and blues/rock belters, in my opinion. I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but do feel that Grace is tasting the benefit of a certain marketing muscle appealing to a wider target audience than many great soul singers had access to. While I have no problem celebrating her beauty, and, yes, she can sing, has a great attitude, a good band, and I'm know they have worked hard to get where they are, I often wonder how many truly great female singers are out there struggling to find a gig because they are not considered good looking. Do you know who the best selling poet of all time is? Jewel. In modern times, the hottie factor rules. My point is that if you like Grace, make sure you also make the effort to go see some of the classic great black singers- Etta, Koko, Aretha, Cassandra Wilson, etc. It will put Ms. Potter in a broader context and you might just get your mind blown in the process.

"Cortez the Killer" @ The Jammy's w/ Satriani, Willie Waldman, Reed Mathis, Kimock, and Stephen Perkins.

That performance will end the argument on her hotness and pipes.

And I know shes living there
And she loves me to this day
I still cant remember when
Or how I lost my way.

He came dancing across the water
Cortez, cortez
What a killer.

Ask Mavis Staples about Grace if you think she is just a pretty face. They have toured together. Maybe some cannot hear the music through her looks? I do hear you on so many talented people, both male and female that did not make it bigger because of the beauty factor.
The Nocturnals(Grace is a Nocturnal too) are a great group of musicians. Scott Tournet is a guitar animal and the driving musical force in the band. boknows is right; Cortez from the Jammys is all you need to hear. But you will want more. Lots of shows on LMA and bt.. Girls can jam with the best of them.

breadloaf,

Easy on the comparisons...She's 24! Comparing her to Etta James doesn't make much sense.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are not to be missed! We had her and her superb band here in Ithaca and they rocked!!! Its nice to see such a professional group of people that seem so happy together. Their show is really crowd pleasing. I am looking forward to seeing them on a festival stage sometime. Thanks Grace and crew you gave Ithaca a very memorable show!

I agree to a certain extent with you breadloaf-The whole package together is quite a marketing tool....The first time I heard her, I was blown away, and upon more and more listens, I still think she is great, but find a few flaws-What I love about them is that the band as a total piece is great. Her voice is awesome, dont get me wrong, although I've heard a few instances where she might be reaching a little to high to match the voices of some of the old timers.........I love her, no question. She's talented, no question. Etta James she is not. And for my money, Susan Tedeschi is much more polished and refined than Grace, although with time, Grace will get her due, Im sure of it.

well that's exciting. It will be interesting to hear this release. You can't deny that she writes from the heart, and I think that this band has a great sound. I was very impressed the first time I heard/saw. Njoy.

thanks cherokee and breadloaf for actually thinking before typing. It is much needed and apprectiated on these boards.

a few comments about some comments...Breadloaf, you sound like a pissed off singer with no gigs...easy on the hatin'...Also, saying that Susan Tedeshci is better because she is more "refined" is just stupid...Refined doesn't mean better...Steely Dan is "refined", the String Cheese Incident is "refined"...The Rolling Stones were never "refined"...Neil Young is not "refined"...Get my drift? And how many original songs has Susan written? Susan is a good imitator...Grace is an orinal who writes, sings, AND plays B3, Rhodes, Piano, and guitar...A motherfucking Flying V at that!!! When is our beloved jam community going to begin to embrace the ROCK? Let's stop spinning to A minor jams and flamboyant light shows and start getting back to what is real...Rock and Roll people...
