MAVIS STAPLES ALBUM/TOUR

MAVIS STAPLES DELIVERS HER "MAGNUM OPUS"
WITH NEW ALBUM WE'LL NEVER TURN BACK
DATES CONFIRMED, INCLUDING BONNAROO

Mavis Staples
Critics are embracing Mavis Staples' new album We'll Never Turn Back (Anti- Records) - a collection of songs that were anthems to the civil rights movement, plus new compositions by Mavis and the album's producer, Ry Cooder - as the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer's "magnum opus" (Ashley Kahn/WALL STREET JOURNAL), and "Staples' state of the union address" (Dave Hoekstra/CHICAGO SUN-TIMES).

Read on for some highlights, and catch Mavis on tour this summer, performing songs from We'll Never Turn Back. Her tour kicks off May 17 with a special performance in Boston as part of Mountain Stage's "Moving The Mountain" tour, and will include festival performances at Bonnaroo and the River to River series in NYC.

"As current as the Don Imus controversy... her music has the power to create change. You shall be moved." - Michael McCall, ASSOCIATED PRESS

"There are voices that never lose their resonance, and songs that never lose their relevance. Staples delivers both." - Elysa Gardner, USA TODAY

"Electrifying...raw and powerful." - VILLAGE VOICE

I think they were just trying to make an analogy...but still a rather poor analogy.

Yeah - find it odd, that a press release (from Mavis' PR) would lead with a quote that takes focus off her music. They could have done with out the Don Imus part and just said "her music has the power to change." Regardless Marvis and Ry is a badass combo.

Agreed. The Imus analogy really is not necessary in the context of her music. She's one of the acts I'm really excited about seeing at Bonnaroo.
