Listen to Kan'Nal on Rhapsody...

Kan'Nal :: 04.20.07 :: Boulder Theater :: Boulder, CO

Kan'Nal :: 04.20.07
A packed house for the DVD release party at the Boulder Theater had both Kan'Nal and the crowd at the top of their game. "It's been a long time," said frontman Tzol as he greeted everyone. Colorful fairy lights and spastic, interpretive dancing with extravagant tribal outfits set the mood, entertaining fans before the band took the stage.

Kan'Nal's dark sound was often coupled with a glowing, red murkiness. The way the band approached performing resonated with intensity - from shirtless drummer Gilly Gonzalez to Aaron Jerad's pumping didgeridoo. Lead guitarist Tierro always seemed to be pushing and cutting with his solos, each note expressed on his face. The crowd reflected the band with unique outfits and all-out, original dancing sprawling out into the lobby. While tribal and exploratory, the music at times resembled Nine Inch Nails in Tzol's dark voice and the band's fully electronic sound.

Kan'Nal :: 04.20.07
As deep as the audience was feeling it, the band appeared to be just as moved by its own sound, and the environment in general. While certainly not slowing down, the circus-like atmosphere took a different cultural turn when four Aztecs from Mexico City dressed in authentic regalia with tall headdresses performed an ethnic dance routine. As one of the performers drummed, the other three danced in synch. The whole night was much more than a concert, it was an event filled with dramatic dancing and unexpected thrills from beginning to end.

Indeed, it was a night very suited for a DVD release (filmed earlier at the same venue). It was a celebration for band and fans alike. The film itself is reflective of this night's performance with much of the same magic, dancing, glowing lights and attractions. Certainly, every show is unique but with Kan'Nal one enters into a culture and ambience only they can create, where rooms are transformed into fictional lands of wonderment brought on by Kan'Nal's cerebral concoctions.

Kan'Nal :: 04.20.07

Kan'Nal will perform next in Colorado on June 1 and 2 at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. The event dubbed "Kan'Nal Tribal Meltdown" will include sets from internationally touring artist Ganga Giri and Ooah from The Glitch Mob DJing a set.

This is the worst band is history. My god how do people listen, pay money for this shit. It is if Rusted root had an orgy with rob zombie. Really i speak this from the heart i am sorry to you people who like them. But they are up there with blink 182 and all the other mainstream crap out there.

This band is all smoke and mirrors...They really don't have much talent and the lead singer sounds like a heavy metal dude from mexico. Sure, they have a bunch of cute costumes and they light a bunch of fire, but there is absolutely no substance. I don't know how these guys even made it this far. Maybe I should start my own band.

I knew the peanut gallery would come out harsh on this one. I must agree just smoke and mirrors. Every review I have read makes them sound amazing. Why? I'm baffled.

Sounds like someone is a ScIFreak. Considering SCI has made me want to drive home sober after every show since 2001. Oh and of course after one minute of seeing them i could puke. To bad ive only seen them once since 2001 and i know why. SCI= too much hype

What a waste of talent!

Its bad enough when people say that Umph is the next Phish but it was worse when people use to say that Cheese was.

Real bunch of spiritual giants posting here...do you have anu clue what these guys are all about? I've seen every band worth seeing numerous times and these guys put out as much energy as you can stand. When they finish, I'm somewhat glad for I'm so wiped from dancing my ass off the entire show, I need the break.

I find it funny how people on this website always try to compare bands to one another. "Umph will be the next Phish, SCI next Phish, Moe is the next Phish, etc." that's bullshit, those artists don't want to be the next Phish, they want to be their own creation, comparing two bands with completely different begginings is foolish and it just shows how little you actually know about making music.

and Kan'al or whatever their name is sucks.

Seriously terrible band. All my friends agree as well. We just can't figure out why people like them. Smoke and mirrors for sure. They definitely put on a production, but musically there is little to nothing. You don't even want to end up catching these guys at a festival as it might taint your ears. Don't waste your time, money, or energy.

^^ And it has nothing to do with comparing them to other bands. They just suck.

I really can't believe all the negativity on here - even if this band isn't for you, they are truly an amazingly talented group of musicians who know how to really work a crowd - I'll agree that their studio tracks don't even come close to matching their live performances but unless you've seen these guys live, you really can't compare. (If the Grateful Dead had been judged on their studio tracks they'd've never been anything near what they ultimately became!) I'm kind of a music snob and I LOVE this band!!! Last time I saw them was at Wookiefoot's Harvest Fest in Harmony Park and I and 3,000 people were blown away by their show!

Kannal is one of the best live shows. It is action packed.They have a beautiful sound and unbelievable stage presence. You can feel the music run threw your body. And you can not keep your eyes off the amazing fire,and other stimulating visual effects.
