JITD ON SALE 7/20

Jam in the Dam Tickets On Sale 7/20 at Noon!

Hello to All!

YMSB :: Jam In The Dam 2007 by Sam Friedman
Hope your summer is going as well as ours. Our friends at Walther Productions just finished their most successful AllGood Festival yet, and we're expecting the same kind of result in Amsterdam next March. We want to remind everyone that tickets for JitD 2008 will go on sale this Friday, July 20th at Noon EDT. There will be links from the homepage, jaminthedam.com to both Music Today and ticketmaster.nl

Direct Music Today ticketing link: jaminthedam.tickets.musictoday.com.

Dates: March 16-17-18-19, 2008

The festival will run four nights this time, with six bands instead of four. It's sure to be the biggest and best yet.

Dark Star Orchestra will be doing a special pre-party on Saturday March 15 in the Old Hall at the Melkweg. This is the only night they will perform their standard full show, from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. This show is ticketed separately. On Wednesday the 19, the only show will be Umphrey's McGee/Disco Biscuits in the newly renovated and expanded Max. For any clarification visit jaminthedam.com/ConcertSchedule07.html.

Pricing is as follows:

U.S.
$250 Four-Night Pass
$34 DSO show on 3/15

Europe (remember, Music Today DOES ship worldwide)
185 euro Four-Night Pass
50 euro One-Night ticket (limited availability)
25 euro DSO show on 3/15

We expect demand for tickets to this year's party to exceed all other years, so act accordingly. We hope that given the early notice this year, everyone's planning will be made a little easier. Remember, with Passports now being required for Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, wait times are longer and it's never too early to start that process: travel.state.gov/passport.

As in past years, Madison House Travel will be available to assist you with plans, and usually are able to negotiate some good hotel and hostel rates. They will be ready in a few weeks: www.madisonhousetravel.com.

Artists performing in 2008:

Umphrey's McGee
Disco Biscuits
Dark Star Orchestra
Tea Leaf Green
Perpetual Groove
Lotus

From jaminthedam.com:

The Disco Biscuits, Dark Star Orchestra and Perpetual Groove
Confirmed for Jam in the Dam 2008

Perpetual Groove
First off, we want to thank everyone for participating in our additional artists' poll. The poll on our message board has gotten around 13,000 views in less than three weeks. We tried to narrow the choices to artists that had expressed interest in past years, and who would also contribute to an amazing show.

Well, as hard as we tried, we couldn't narrow it down to two more bands. So, we're bringing three! Six bands, you ask, how is that going to work in three nights? It won't. So we are expanding the festival to four nights!

We are very excited to add The Disco Biscuits, Perpetual Groove and Dark Star Orchestra. These were the top three vote-getters in the poll. You spoke, we listened. But we had to get very creative to accomplish this lineup. Here's how:

The festival will now span four nights, March 16, 17, 18, 19, 2008. We are also taking the unusual step of announcing the schedule concurrent with this announcement, so folks can get a gander at exactly how it will work. In short, DSO will only play the first two nights in the Max. Umphrey's McGee and the Disco Biscuits will each have one night off out of four to potentially come and act as fans/guest musicians. We will play Tea Leaf Green, PGroove, and Lotus in the Old Hall each night, but only for March 16, 17, 18. On March 19, the only show will be Umphrey's McGee and the Biscuits in the Max, doing slightly longer sets.

What about DSO? Are they getting shortchanged? NO! As a result of so many of our European fans asking for DSO on a weekend, they will play the pre-party in the Old Hall on Saturday March 15, doing their entire show. This show will be a separate ticket. Got all that? Didn't think so. Take a look here at the schedule:

jaminthedam.com/ConcertSchedule07.html

A departure from the norm? Absolutely, but so is going to Amsterdam for four nights of music and civilized decadence! We had to figure a way to please the most people, including our hugely increasing European audience, which we feel DSO was greatly responsible for last year. Hope you like it!

There is expected to be a big demand for tickets this year. As such, there will only be one price for tickets. No early-bird, but also no price increase later. And the best news? We have only increased the ticket by $25 from this past year's late price, but are offering a whole extra night of music and two more artists. Tickets will be $250 (185 Euro) for the four nights, and $34 (25 Euro) for the DSO pre-party on the 15. A limited amount of one-night tickets will be available in Europe for 50 Euro. On sale will commence July 20.

A lot of work was done to get this completed as early as possible, so the saving, planning, and passport obtaining can start WAY in advance. Be aware that since passports are now required for Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean, wait times are up to 10 weeks, without paying an expedited fee. As always, Madison House Travel will be available to lend help to anyone needing it.

See you in March!

Hello Everyone!

We're going to do things a little differently this year. Since this is such a major planning effort for most people, and we had three artists who definitely WANTED to come next March, we are going to let the cat out of the bag. Also, with airlines giving fewer seats to frequent flyer miles, and being that you can reserve them starting 11 months in advance (that's the rule, we don't know why), some people can take advantage of that.

The other change, is that we will be doing FIVE artists next year! We will run three per night in the Old Hall, with a slightly reduced set time. Announcing this early will let us take our time to get feedback from our most loyal fans on who the last two bands should be. Please take part in the poll on our message board.

Jam in the Dam 2008 | March 16-17-18

We are very pleased to welcome back Umphrey's McGee, along with Tea Leaf Green and Lotus. As we've said all along, it's very important for all of the artists to WANT to be a part of our special festival. In many ways, it's like a private party for the most loyal fans of the bands, in one of the greatest cities on Earth. We sold 30% of the tickets in Europe last year, and hope to grow that. This is now TRULY an international festival.

We expect to decide on the others by the end of May. Tickets will go on sale sometime in late July, exact date TBA. Please stay tuned, and stay involved!

See you in March!

I went in '06. Badass festie. Looks like I might be making a return in '08. Hopefully they add Bisco. I've seen STS9 8 times and I can honestly say I hope they don't get added. I love their sound, but 3 straight days of STS9 gets quite boring. I think Lotus keeps it fresher than STS9 does anyway these days...they actually still jam a bit. Everytime...Instantly.

The promoters actually asked MMW before and MMW wanted too much money (for the tickets to this to be affordable), so they're out of the question.

SciFreak: "I hope they don't add bisco because i really think they should go fuck themsleves and blow their fucking heads off because they are THE WORST JAMBAND IN THE WORLD!!!!"

Looks like that guy needs to change his name to SciPsycho. Besides I have a new side project out right now where all I do is make fart sounds in a microphone, and we are the self proclaimed worst band in the world, don't worry though guys, I would never blow my head off.

shack dude...your tune is old. I've heard it before in multiple places. it's funny though, you're good for comic relief from time to time. despite the amazing jamcruise lineups, you can't beat amsterdam for a festival setting...certainly not with a trip through customs in jebbushcountry (with little to purchase on the other side) and onto a superpolluting cruise ship that will leave you rocking for a week after you get home. OK, maybe that last part is a good thing...let's get MMJ, ALO & PGroove on this bill and I'm there.

What do you think this is, some tight pants, scarf wearing, combovers? Its a rock show, brah. Don't people who love jambands go to see the band jam? Improvisation is what makes me want to see bands over and over. UM, MMW, or phish are perfect examples.Singing is only a small portion of what makes bands good.

I went in '06, and I think some of you are missing the point. This is AMSTERDAM people. Where else in the world are people openly gobbling boomers in front of club security while others passing around a 3 ft. binger and a bubbler to anyone in the vicinity of the FRONT ROW. I'm telling you its a different kind of party when you feel zero percent sketch about all the 'activities' one might partake in this kind of setting. I'm sure jamcruise is f'in awesome and I'd love to go to that as soon as possible, but let's not undermind Amsterdam and its possibilties, which are endless.

i agree w/ gmoo about the different vibe at these shows, and i was also there in 06'. yes you can see any of these bands multiple times at fests in the us. and yes you can travel to amsterdam at anytime. but putting the two together is a lot of fun. what better way to make amsterdam a stop on your european vaca than while jitd is goin on? i couldn't imagine going to amsterdam and having a better time. it is a lot of money and not everyone can do it, but this isnt a huge festival. i forgot the numbers the venues hold, but its intimate and very personal. hard to see any of these bands at venues these sizes these days, and i like the addition of a 5th band, will only bring more fun to '08.

HOPEFULPHAN - check out www.jamruise.com tmrw as tmrw they will announce who's playing, where ship is going, etc. - 650 cabins out of 800 or so already prebooked. As of today no ship named, nobody knows where the ship is going. Nobodu knows who's playing. Chances are Umphreys and Bisco will both be on the ship, or least parts of them. TLG was on last year. I'm not big fan of Lotus, so whatever. I just expect more headliners (like moe, yonder, galactic, salmon, etc) to make me travel 8000 miles from CA and spend a ton. I'm writing this fest off for 2008 plans.

I've been to the last two jam in the dams and its hands down the BEST FUCKING festival i have ever been to. AMSTERDAM!!! i mean what else do i need to say, its a beautiful city with some of the most interesting and amazing people that i have ever met. gmoos right some of you are missing the point of this festival, its not about who's headlining, hell, no one band actually headlines this festival. the bands switch up the lineup ever night. However, what this festival is really about though is getting to see another part of the world, meeting people, and seeing some great bands, TRULY, having a great time playing for the fans. P.S. love to have galactic back, green lemon would be nice ,jamiroquai would be fucking great, but it would never happen.

The1AndOnlyDJCT - its true...mmw is awesome but they make themselves inacessable to many promoters that are not on a corprate talent buying budget - they charge out the ass for a performance...no love for those of us who do buisiness with our feet on the earth's surface....still bad as fuck, anyway - MMW is one of the better groups ever if you ask me.

yeah Tympanic....RAQ is some pretty intense high-performance rock n roll. I can't even keep my face on when I'm completely sober and have adhered to my head with several layers of super glue.

that would be a pretty solid addition, I agree

if umph, tea leaf and lotus are going, then it will be one hell of a party. i'd be down for some bela fleck to get everybody's heads straight with some bluegrass and try to get a cheese reunion to finish out the lineup.

SICK LINEUP!!!
want to chime in and say adding JFJO or even moe would trick this mother out. Crazy Europeans already like crazy jam-jazz anyways

People that went there in 06, Seriously how much ballpark does this whole deal run ya? Im guessing about 2g's to do it right? That sounds worth the trip.

I plan to visit amsterdam in my lifetime, and now that this fest is going on, will never do it if not for a sick JITD - 2 beautiful birds with one stony stone!

I went to the first JITD. I don't remember things exactly. And a few years have passed.

I stayed at the Greenhouse Effect (www.greenhouse-effect.nl/index2.html). It is a hotel and a smoke shop. I recommend checking it out. Bags of green and hash were between 10 and 20 euros/gm depending on the strain. Mushrooms(2 wet gms, I believe) were 20, peyote was a little more.

Most of the beer served is Heineken and Guinness, least where I went and it was 4 or 5 euros/beer. And if you want to eat cheap, you can. There are pizza places and gyro shops.

Hope that helps a little. If you want to go to Amsterdam, the JITD festival is the BEST time to go.

P.S. Watch out for cars and trains! Humans DO NOT have the right of way in Amsterdam.

Umphreys isnt a headliner? they r headlining 10klf and they r prolly the hottest band as of right now so that argument is garbage. Why r we comparing years they r obviously trying to change it up to attract different people i have had nothing bad to say about any of the lineups from the jam, its all good tunes to me. Ive been dying to see pgroove and tea leaf green, cant say that ive ever heard anything by lotus but im totally up for it.

Ha, I bet they added bisco just because so many people were hating on them in this thread. I was wondering which would sound worse on here, saying that Bisco and PGroove blow (which they obviously don't) or using the musically illiterate sounding "bumping jammish" description of a band.

This fest is gonna rock all you guys going are lucky. I think I might try to get to Holidaze.

Ughh is this the best the jam scene has to offer? Actually, that is a rhetorical question. I know the answer. It pains me that the jam scene has gotten so mediocre, but that is probably why nobody really cares about the scene anymore. Not one band playing at this festival is a top tier band in my oppinion. Gone are the days of great jam bands like Phish, Aquarium Rescue Unit or even lesser known bands like God Street Wine. Now we've got lot's of unfocused and meandering livetronica overloading the scene.

Man some people spreading the bad vibes, its a shame. I am GOING!! And I can NOT wait!! I cant wait to see the music and amsterdam. It is pricey but that is expected.

I dont understand some of the comments on here. I mean that is fine you like the bands you like and dislike the ones you do..thats great freedom of choice (bout the only freedom ya got) But dont put other bands and listeners of that band down b/c they dont fit your personal taste a simple I am not into their music works just as good. People like what they like, dont force your opinion. And there is no need to be hateful

Peace guys and cant wait, 8 months....

"Okay jambandfan....fair enough. The other bands are just generic garbage. I mean is that as good as it gets??? Where's the real music like MMW, the Duo, Karl Denson, or Galactic?"

Well, if you haven't been following along for the last three years, Galactic played in March and the Duo played in 06. That venue is only 1500 capacity, so it limits the possibiltites. And if you think God Street Wine was a 'great jam band', that qualifies your opinion nicely. This festival is just icing on the cake of a trip to the wonderful city of Amsterdam. Been to all three, can't wait!

Shoot... Lotus is freakin' awesome! At All Good what I felt and kept hearing from others was that Lotus and moe. played the top sets of the festival. People were losing there shit during Lotus' set. Plus they were not meandering, but very focused. Very jealous of those going to JITD.
