UNDERGROUND HEAVYWEIGHT BASSNECTAR
CONFIRMED FOR COACHELLA APPEARANCE
LOOK FOR BASSNECTAR'S NEW RELEASE, UNDERGROUND COMMUNICATION AVAILABLE ON OM RECORDS BEGINNING MAY 8, 2007

Bassnectar
San Francisco's "number one DJ" has just been confirmed to perform at this year's Coachella Music Festival. On Saturday, April 28, Bassnectar will appear as a featured artist in the "Lucent Misting Oasis" - a 360 degree, big sound, interactive environment set to showcase the country's hottest underground acts. The "Lucent Misting Oasis" is Coachella's largest art installation yet, encompassing one full acre in the center of the festival. The area is hosted by The Do LaB, an ensemble cast of creatives from the Los Angeles underground, including artists, event producers, lighting designers and the performance troupe Lucent Dossier.

Look for Bassnectar and The Do LaB to share the stage again two weeks later at the annual Lightning in a Bottle Festival on May 11, 12 and 13 at Live Oak in Santa Barbara, California.

With "the largest cult following of any DJ in San Francisco" and voted "Best DJ" by Nitevibe.com and SF Bay Guardian, Bassnectar's music is forging new paths in the electronic music world, the Burning Man scene, underground hip-hop circles, and beyond. The brainchild of Lorin Ashton, Bassnectar is an experimentally collaborative music project, but it's also a platform for social change and political awareness. It's stylistically specific, yet it's an eclectic, full spectrum adventure.

For Bassnectar's new release, Underground Communication (Om Records/May 8, 2007), Bassnectar takes another step forward in his genre-bending blend of musical styles and emotions, combining the visceral melodic presence of modern listening music, with the force and volume of sound system dancefloor devastation. The new record is an exploration of hip-hop culture, featuring scores of MCs and rhythmic poetics mashed atop a heavy, driving range of tempo and, of course, those signature throbbing bass lines. Rooted firmly in political conviction and philosophical intention, and backed by a rabid fan base and dedicated following, Underground Communication sets a new standard for the possibilities of merging music, art, new media and social activism.

Here's what the critics are saying:

"Zigzagging bass flutters, acid techno, hip-hop, and ambient breakbeats which are tantamount to pulsating club bangers." –URB

"Innovative, unique stylish & infectious." -SF Bay Guardian

"Lorin Ashton (aka Bassnectar) is a musical renaissance man." -Djmixed.com

"The alt-culture festival favorite expands his deep, warbled bass lines, otherworldly atmospheres, and socially conscious lyrics within a dizzying range of genres." -Flavorpill.net

Though not my style and a bit to 90's, I respect what Bassnectar does. I enjoy seeing the guys that use vinyl. Beat Junkies, Cut Chemist, Dj Logic etc. and I think Motion Potion might have something to spin about that "San Fran's number one Dj" comment...

Motion Potion is good shit, but Lorins got the unique factor.....theres just nothing that sounds like bassnectar. To me, that makes him #1. Cant wait for High Sierra and Burning Man! New CD has a very live feel to it.
