mood food and Vince Welnick's first musical encounter came when a chance meeting brought them together to jam on two tracks released on mood food's debut album. From there they went on to play a few sporadic shows together around the Bay Area. Inspired by mood food's unique approach to the live and recorded media, Vince sought out the band to further expand his musical horizons.
Visiting cities up and down the West coast this April, mood food and
Vince will bring their unique approach to groove driven mprovisational
music by playing small theaters and clubs. Kicking off their tour at
the Café Tomo in Arcata, California, the band will meander their way up the coast, hitting Eugene, Portland, and Seattle. Following the Pacific Northwest, they then take the plunge into Southern California. After making their way out to Las Vegas, they end the tour in Vince’s home state of Arizona.
Most recognizable from his seventeen years writing and playing keyboard with The Tubes, Todd Rundgren, and the Grateful Dead, Vince Welnick has been putting his fingers to the keys and capturing audiences’ attention all over the world. Most recently recording with the Persuasions, recording his own album, and sitting in with Les Claypool and the String Cheese Incident, he has been re-introduced to both old and new audiences who are excited by his talent and reveling in the music he makes happen. Returning to his roots and playing club sized venues and small music halls, Vince offers his fans the unique opportunity to experience his musicianship in an intimate setting.
San Francisco based improvisational band mood food proves to fans and critics alike that the same music which stretches musical boundaries at their live shows can be captured and tamed into a well thought musical moment. Mood food’s most recent solo acclaim has come through the Homegrown Music Network, where their self-titled debut CD has listed on the top twenty seller’s list for February 2001, among others such as the Steve Kimock Band and moe.. They were also recently broadcast on the nationally syndicated "Grateful Dead Hour" hosted by David Gans, when
mood food’s version of "Standing on the Moon" featuring Vince Welnick
on keys and vocals brought them to a national audience.
Drawing from his past experiences in The Tubes and the Grateful Dead,
Vince and mood food will travel along a musical journey with carefully
plotted out songs amidst many diverging jams. The experience which is
mood food’s music brings out the spirited adventurer in Vince. The
combination promises their audiences evenings of unparalleled musicianship. This tour promises to show Vince’s fans a side of him
they may not have seen before and introduce them to the innovation which is mood food.
